hi

i got a 2006 SR5 v6 manual, which goes good but soon as i go through sand and i go into second gear it just completly dies in the ass. Is this normal? and is there anyway to fix it?

Yep... get an auto...

In sand you need to keep the revs and momentum up.... if anything, you'd be better trying to start in second on the hard stuff and keep it moving...

Hopefully some of the guys with a manual that drive on sand often can give you some better advice... But with an auto it just eats this type of terrain.,..

If it's dying in second, then I'd say your on fairly soft sand... Stay in first, or learn to change gears really quick!!!

I'm with macca, sounds like a symptom of too much air in the tyres.... But even then the lower pressure will increase rolling resistance which will increase the power required.

Thats right Rod, also when your on the sand with low pressure the tyre sits on top of the sand instead of cutting through and pushing a bow wave. Its amazing the diference it makes.

I've driven in 2wd with low pressure where I could not go in 4wd Hi or Low range at highway pressure.

Could not believe I got through when I realised I had not put it in 4wd. Felt like a bloody idiot that I went where I did

Amazing where you can get by changing tyre pressures. My poor old Suzi used to work a bit pushing Swampers on sand at 8 psi, wheel spin was impossible so it would go anywhere but whenever I stopped, there was this distinctive smell of burning rubber..

my v6 with tyres deflated floats along nicely in 2nd gear, and this was with the factory highway tyres(have been alot of places and they didnt get a flat/a steaking or anything, closest thing was a stick in the bead lock which was fixed in minutes.)

if it gets abit thick put some more revs into it, without using the clutch to much, she usualy will pull back up 2 speed without any issues or just run in first, tho as you i take it first seems like rather high rpms for net result and 2nd would seem more eco'.
Ive yet to haver her stall or anything that low in revs when driving on the beach/sand, try to use the clutch as little as possible to avoid anything happening to the weak pos, and should be right.
