Using ATF in KUN26R Manual Gearbox

Fellas Cant find an answer to this, however a very reputable gear box re conditioner made this statement after I purchased an exchange gearbox for my Ford Courier from him. " Your warranty is void if you dont use ATF in the box".

I am certain everyone is well versed in the failure rate of Ford Courier transmissions so I wont share chapter and verse.

Has anyone had experience using ATF in Toyota manual gearboxes and would there be detrimental outcomes if one was to do so. I am aware sulphur content has a relationship to the material used in synchro rings and seals.

Appreciate any advise as I feel gearbox changes are not as smooth as I would like in my 2005 D4D.

Not something I would do, atf is for auto transmissions! I would stick to the recommended gearbox fluid that Toyota tells me to. Have you replaced your gearbox fluid? Slow synchros are often fixed with a lighter grade but they're probably passed useby date if they're original. Assuming the 2005 has the original box in it.
If your synchros are suspect it's maybe possible to use a different fluid but I wouldn't use atf.

Send an email to the Penrite help service stating what you have in your post. They are very clever people.

Ok Contacted my gearbox rebuilder acquaintance to obtain his recommendations re the Hilux. Advice received was that ATF should not be used, use 75/85 Gear Oil which is a lighter oil than the Toyota spec.

Or just ring them up and ask to speak to someone from the tech department. I’ve done this many times.
