Rear tail shaft

Postby Hilux2005 on Sun, 08 Dec 2019 7:27 +0000

My tail shaft at the rear where the sliding joint is where it’s aloud to extend and retract makes a ringing noise under braking and sometimes just as accelerating, I greased it up but still doing it. It’s like the inner tube inside is hitting the outer tube. How can this be rectified?

Are you sure its the spline? Uni's can make that noise as well. If you can rule them out, get another shaft.

Could it be your prop shaft centre support bearing?
I might be wrong.

When checking it out jack the back wheels off the ground so there is no load. Then have a good look at the uni

I jacked the wheels off the ground and spun the wheels by hand and it sounds like it’s coming from inside the shaft
