Hi guys,

I have a small problem but I need some help with my gearbox. The thread of the fill hole is a litle damaged, so I need to tap it. I need to know which thread it is so I can use the specific tap.
My Hilux is a 2014 2.5L diesel with a manual transmission.

Thanks a lot!

Take to bung you took out to an engineering supplier and ask them to sell you a tap to match?

If you have a vernier caliper you can measure the diameter of the fill hole bolt/bung/plug.
Then you will need the thread pitch - It should be metric.
If you have a set of taps you can match the pitch with the thread of that plug. The thread crests and troughs will sit perfectly into each other when the correct pitch is selected.

If you use a tap keep it well greased with the stickiest grease you can find so the small bits of metal dont fall into the box.

I was thinking to do the same. The only problem I have is that i don't know if the thread is bsp or npt. It is hard to see the difference.
