218900kms and it is getting replaced today. It was okish until about 2 weeks ago i burnt it a bit towing a trailer with about 500-600kg of soil up a steep driveway.
Getting a HD unit thrown in now.

If I had a dog that looked like him, I'd shave it's arse and make it walk backwards.

main regret, is all my mates and family said buy an AUTO....... I said no way, as I thought all they would want to do is drive the car then lol.... now i realised AUTO on difficult stuff (4wding) seems so much easier as my mate has a 2010 SR5 Auto and just breezes through, whereas I gotta worry about gears etc.. for slower pace stuff... my arrogance bit me in the bum lol, hate to admit it! or maybe im getting lazy and starting to hate gears! Shouldve bought an AUTO 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
Vehicle #1: 2013 SR5 - plenty of mods to come.... hopefully
Vehicle #2: 2009 CBR1000 - maxxed out.. lol

Haven't posted for a while, just moved to Sunny Queensland.
Had my Lux serviced by Toyota at 170000km in December just before we moved north and asked to check and adjust the clutch and they told me my original clutch should be replaced at my next service at 1800000km.
I told them thanks, but will get it done at my next service (only because we had a bit of an outlay with removalist costs, stamp duties, selling our NSW Home, beer, christmas and all other necessary expenses)
I run a small business and travel over 180kms a day so finally got them got them to replace it at 185000kms this week along with a service.
I often tow an off road trailer that weighs over a ton, and must say that getting 185000kms out of a clutch is pretty good.
Pretty Happy

Clutch gone again, number 3...
18,500 ks & just under 12 months on this one. Almost no towing, still have the VMN chip fitted on its as sent setting.
Can't work out how the original clutch lasted 60,000 ks & the last 2 have done less than 20,000 ks each.

What's the best heavy duty aftermarket clutch to fit?

Hi Matt,

Would you be able to ship to Johannesburg, South Africa?

I've emailed Xtremeclutch and XTerrian both don't come back to me.

Locally there are no Heavy Duty kits available and I'm not going to pay to put the same crap back in.

What im really wondering is that you guys there ( Australia) have and drive in those vasts distances and long trips which means less gear changes etc and you have your clatches die so often. Here in this bloody piece of land in the sea which the longest distance is less than 500 kms almost all cars get more than 150ks for a clutch change and thats for cars that are driven like they are stolen. My old man's truck is a tad under half a million and he replaced it once. Clutches here are the last of the last of our worries lol :)

My Hilux is still on it's original clutch with 170k+ on it. Original owner said he never had to change it and he did a fair bit towing his caravan I think. It seems to slip a little bit if I push it hard on take off though but not really an issue.

My 2013 manual d4d has done around 35,000ks and every now and then the clutch gives a little howling sound when taking off in 1st. 2nd gear take off will always make a slipping noise. Just wondering wether or not to put a H-D clutch in before I find myself stuck out bush with a knackered clutch.

Any ideas as to wether I should change it now before it gets worse? (I never tow either)

Cheers

I've got 110,000+km on my 2005 2.5 manual.
Yesterday, I was reversing out of a diagonal parking lot on a down ward slope and there was a squealing sound then i realised the clutch pedal hadn't come all the way out. First time that's happened. Probably take it in next weekend.

Hahaha... +1 on that... was on one site and client was complaining about hilux being a POS and clutch being shite.... he rode it the whole way out of the pit up the ramp behind a dump truck.... not the car :D If you need to ride the clutch you're in the wrong gear

So after a lot of soft beach driving (Yeagarup beach) the clutch smelled all kinds of wrong. Now it does it with the tiniest bit of work so I think it might be time for a new one (this is after almost 120000kms)

I'm in Donnybrook. Anyone recommend a place to get a new one installed around Bunbury/Busselton or is there a place in Perth thats so amazing it's worth the drive up?

Cheers!

I have a great way of making sure you don't burn out your clutch.

Tip 1
don't touch the accelerator until you have your foot off the clutch pedal.

Tip 2
Buy an auto

2008 sr diesel manual lux with 265 75 16 atm.. Previous owner replaced the clutch 2 or 3 times in 4 years with a "heavy duty" clutch. I assume it was under warranty when all that was done. Now me driving around town its fairly okay, put my trailer on and i have to watch it. Any slight incline or reversing up a gutter and i have to use low range lol. Time for a new one!

Has anybody had experience with bad hopping when easing the the clutch out? Especially in reverse? My last hilux never did it but this one does. Toyota tells me it's normal.. However just because it's normal doesn't mean it should happen
