I guess that's one particular advantage of all lockers though, you can crawl where others have to use momentum to get through, I'd like to think all serious 4wders should have lockers to look after the tracks but that'd be boring I guess Also saves a bit of wear and tear on your vehicle

it is something 4wd'ing needs to do more of... more calm behaviour. There's so feckin many 4wd'ers these days, and a lot of them are just tearing stuff apart!

I do love seeing someone smashing up a hill with no real clue (wrong gearing, unlocked, just being numpties) ... while i practically idle up the hill.

On another note, is anyone else's front end clunky / crunchy when articulating , particularly downhill when weight is on the nose? I hate the sound because I've done a CV before (diff mount was busted) so it's forever on my mind.

I actually have a suscpicion its my bullbar mounts... have had an extremely annoying "crack" sound i used to get onroad... noone could work it out, including best suspension places. Turns out it was the bloody bullbar mounts cracking whenever the chassis flexed.

Drove me feckin nuts.

Agreed. One of the best things about lockers, easier on your rig and easier on the track.

Nice find on the bullbar mounts. I was looking for this sound on mine and never found it. Always thought it was in the suspension somewhere but after replacing virtually all of it was still there.

Yep I fitted lockers to my Hilux after a couple of forum trips showed how I had to belt my truck through sections that others with lockers crawled through

Lockers are one of those things I think, if you've never had one you don't know what you're missing

moral being rear locker is a handy substitute for 4wd when you bust your cv's?

And a front locker gives you the chance to bust the other cv when one let's go

Did anyone notice a big difference when they had they’re front locker installed in everyday driving 2WD? I had a mate install mine for me and now to me i feel the car is loaded up more, as if there is a heavier load on the engine.
I am going to do some research and find somewhere in brissie what can have a look at the setup for me, i am wondering if it is all too tight in the diff carrier causing an increased load?

But then again it maybe normal? Did anyone else notice any difference?

In 2wd you shouldn't no it is there.

its an air locker... but funny thing is i gave the car a small service today, changed my oils and filters. My air filter was pretty clogged up from god knows what.

Not sure if that was just a coincidence or the locker needed ‘bedding in’ maybe the bearings was not pressed on fully etc making it tight. I don’t know. But it feels like normal now which is all that matters. I aim to regear soon and take it somewhere to do so. So I will ask them to have a look and just double check the setup whilst inside

Hey all , read through most of the 10 pages of the thread [tired brain now] , wondering what the latest opinions are ? . mainly considering the options when towing about a 1.5 t camper .
Standard 3litre with 80000ks really only mild offroading this year ,Cape next . Thinking front only elocker ,mainly due to budget . Thoughts ??

Depend who you ask. Ronny Dahl's youtube on the topic reckons put one on the rear while the recent 4wdaction youtube advocates for one on the front. Pros and cons for both.

I have one in the elocker rear and its great (when its not falling to pieces internally). I would certainly put another rear locker in (probably an ARB or TJM locker)... but I am considering a lokka for the front.

The front tends to pick up wheels into the air more - so at that point I have no traction at the front end.
