Oil Leak?

Postby Billy Bob on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 11:21 +0000

Hi ive got a 05 sr i have just noticed there is oil leaking between the tail shaft and front of rear diff, the tail shaft is causing the oil to spray every where, do i need to worry? what is the problem? any info would be greatly appreciated.

that would be your pinion seal and if its just weaping it will be fine but if its leaking pretty bad i would get it fixed

Thanks SR5LUX it is leaking pretty badly does it take much to replace, can i buy the seal and do it myself or how much roughly would it hit my pocket for a mechanic to do? Is it a common problem? Sorry about all these questions. Regards Rob.

It should be still under warrenty, but if its not i wouldnt atempt to do it yourself unless your mechanical minded because dropping the tailshaft is easy and so is removing the seal but im pretty sure on the new diffs you have to set a preload on the pinion which can be tricky, not enough preload it will leak again and to much preload and it will squash the seal.... hope this helps, and are you still interested in the wheels?
