Had my clutch die last week (2nd one) and ended up having an NPC Clutch conversion kit fitted. New billet steel flywheel and a landcruiser clutch. It feels awesome to drive and hopefully the reliability will be like my old cruiser.
Was about $1400 for the kit.
I know most of you blokes would have heard of these but just putting the info out there for a far better solution rather than keep using hilux clutches and playing the broken clutch game every 40,000km.

Is it a landcruiser clutch that is modified to suit the hilux? With larger friction area. There was a change in the model where they increased the surface area of the flywheel.

Boxhead did the Prado always have a larger friction area than the pre 08/08 hilux's. There was a thread on here eons ago of a member who fitted a pre 08/08 hilux with a Prado clutch. Also is the new 79 series clutches interchangeable with hilux? Was told they both run the same boxes.

Noidea is the guy your thinkin of. Haven't seen him for a while come to think of it...

Prado has a different gear box so has it own clutch 6 speed box.
Have only seen 2 ever!
Never had one out.
As for the landcruser pressure plate they are bigger. So this interests me for sure to see how it is done.

Just spoke to the boys at NPC and ordered the conversion kit. The kit comes with a custom drilled 275mm single mass flywheel to suit Landcruiser 1HZ clutch with a Safari tuff clutch pressure plate and organic friction plate. If the bugger slips now I will be surprised. Kit is complete with new bearing and bolts.

05 this is my third standard clutch to die. I'm over it

Have ordered myself the NPC clutch setup.

I have a NPC clutch in my 09 lux billet fly wheel .Have had it in the truck for over 6months.
Good bit of gear.

Been running the NPC clutch (NPC 7675) for 3 years. No drama's so far.

4x4 time vs on road time.

I ask as im on 3rd warrenty clutch, and 1 exceedy, the exceedy has spent 50% 4x4, and when on road has a car on tow on my car trailer. now i have done the same on all clutches, the stock ones lasted about 10 000km each, all within 2yrs. now the exceedy has been on for 3yrs, but i have done 120 000kms, i found that the flywheel had a step, not machined flat.

The old girl has done 60k, has spent time on the dyno, is supercharged, tow's a 8x5 box trailer full of ride on mower, chain saw's etc up a 2000ft range twice a month, tow a 1800kg boat....As said, no dramas so far...I'll see how its traveled next May when I plan on dropping the gearbox.

Clutch has been in for couple of weeks now, great pedal feel. Not the vague engagement point like before. Very confidence inspiring, may even let the missus drive it now Next on the list... Steering Rack

I ran a NPC Coppermix in my SS and never had an issue, took a beating day in day out.

Picked up a new npc clutch the other day hope to put it in on the weekend.
2012 model with 60k all highway work , chip & exhaust = stuffed
Anyone know the torque settings for the flywheel & pressure plate.

Flywheel Bolts:

Torque:
178 N*m{ 1,815 kgf*cm , 132 ft.*lbf } for 1KD-FTV, 2KD-FTV
83 N*m{ 846 kgf*cm , 61 ft.*lbf } for 1GR-FE





INSTALL CLUTCH COVER ASSEMBLY





Align the matchmarks on the clutch cover and flywheel.


Tighten the 6 bolts as described below.



Determine the first bolt to be tightened by choosing the bolt closest to the knock pin.


Uniformly tighten the 6 bolts in diametrically opposite pairs relative to the position of the first bolt. Use the illustration as a reference.



Torque:
19 N*m{ 195 kgf*cm , 14 in.*lbf }



Lightly move SST up and down, and right and left.

Check that the disc is in the center, and then tighten the bolts.

Update, still as good as the day it went in. 20000km, most of it towing the boat. All good. Great pedal feel. It's a little noisier but I can't complain.
