Im up for a new clutch, pretty much sold on the 4terrain clutch for a 08/2008 lux. Just wondering the best place to buy them from online, seeing as alot of hilux owners have them. Im located in Townsville qld if that helps. Cheers.

Kizzzaaa,
Burson Auto Parts in Pilkington St are Clutch Industries agents (manufacturers of the 4Terrain clutch)

Just a note to those who need to do their main seal, use a genuine one! Put an aftermarket one in mine $25, lasted bout 6 weeks and started leaking again so now I gotta pull it all back out again! The genuine one is about $100 but from what the trans shop here tell me that after the first couple came back leaking they only ever use a genuine one.

Thanks, i got a 4terrain off ebay from brisbane for literally half the price that bursons gave me.

Just double checking, i have an 08/2008 hilux. Does that fall in the 275mm category or could it be the smaller one?
How do i check via the vin number?

Hey guys gunna rip mine down tomoz to do the rear main seal and a thrust bearing. My question is I'll be doin most of it by myself and was thinking of removing the transfer to make things a bit easier to handle, does it just unbolt and slip off? What's the go? Thanks!

Hey Toyzx, when I did mine I knocked the tailshafts off and left the transfer on. Easy enough to move, just need a little patience and some muscle.

Cheers

if youre doing it in the driveway/ shed removing the transfer definitely makes life easier, (8 bolts that's it, and I was surprised to see how much shit was built up in there) just might be a bit hard to get to the top drvs side bolt unless you have a body lift. currently in the process of replacing my outback extreme to the outback extreme 275mm clutch because my rear main decided to spunk itself all over my clutch that still looks brand new. anyways for anyone doing theirs soon heres the main torque specs:
T-Case to G-box ext: 24NM
Bellhousing Bolts: 72NM
Slave Cyl: 12NM
Clutch housing: 19NM
Flywheel: 178NM

Prop shaft bolts: 88NM

definitely one of the better gearboxes ive had to do, (which is good because ive puled mine 3 times in 3 years due to 2 upgrades and 1 premature failure of a thurst brg)

Anyway kids, hope that helps someone, and if you need anymore help Yota WKSP manual online: http://www.moranbahweather.com/toyota/hilux/index2.html

hey guys, sorry to bring this thread up again. how are people getting to the drivers side top bolt? can't seem to get anything to fix to crack it. MIght have to go 750mm breaker bar and shallow socket or something to get to it from the engine bay.

Do you have the gearbox cross member off? Just let everything hang down, get a couple of long extensions and maybe a universal joint and you'll get it.

So i've read through the thread a few times now (while clarifying clutch size) and thanks to all who've added info. Doesn't look like we ever came up with some actual install instructions though???

I got my new clutch in the mail today so I'll be having a crack at it in the next couple of weeks. I've picked up a lot of good info in the thread like all the torque specs, replace rear main seal with genuine, disconnect from transfer case if I can, remove gearbox cross member etc; and it's very appreciated. I know BUGGER all though so I need all the info I can get. Honestly I was planning to just start taking things off and work it out as I go but after reading all the warnings and paperwork that come with the clutch, now I'm stressing hahaha. I've heard and read a lot of feedback about hilux being one of the easiest to do which is very comforting.

So, if anybody can find straight forward, walk-through instructions on how to do it that would incredibly helpful. Any and all other advice is welcome. 2010 SR kun26 d4d for the record

Man the best thing I did the last time I had mine apart was leaving the transfer case and gearbox together. When ya unbolt everything, have the box sitting on a trolley jack then wriggle it off the back of the engine, roll it back far enough to work on the clutch etc and then jack the box up into the floor of the ute so it's nice and snug amd leave it there while ya do the clutch replacement. Then it's just a matter of lowering it a little and rolling it back into position. Have a mate or two with ya, especially for the reassembly and male sure when removing and refitting the box ya keep the box level with the engine, imagine a line running through the crank and gearbox and keep it all straight. Good luck!

All noted, thanks very much. Think it'll be a couple of weeks before I can get access to a hoist so I'll be collecting any and all further info until then.

Its likely to be the larger clutch. Put your VIN into partsouq and see what you come up with.
