Diff Breathers - Front & Rear

Gearboxs, Transfers, Tailshafts, Diffs, axles and CVs

please correct me if i am mistaken, but only the rear diff gets the fitting from the diff housing removed and a new fitting attached to which you then attach the plastic hose and run it up to higher place. the other 3 locations being the front diff and the gearbox and transfer case all use the existing lines and it gets extended up. If this is the case how are the existing lines held in the 3 locations?

Further to this is there another breather hose for the ADD?

Has anyone purchased the below and been able to fit it without purchasing any extras?

I've got the cheaper version of AoB's kit (basically just uses a black hose and a simplified mounting plate).
Havn't gotten around to doing the gear box or transfer case yet, but got plenty of hose left after running the rear and front difs.

I slid the extra hose into the front diff hose, took a bit of fiddling, but it's tight enough not to be able to pull back out. I check it here and there, if it does come lose, i'll put a clamp on it. Can grab a pic if you need, but it's a tight enough fit to hold.
Cheers,
Jay

Hey Fellas,

Is there an issue with reusing the factory breather from the rear diff instead of the sintered bronze filters that seem to come with these kits?

Some of the OEM ones aren't actually a breather - more of a one way valve. They will vent positive internal pressure, but negative pressure can snap them shut so that air or water is pulled in via the path of least resistance, which is often the seals. The filters of various sorts that come with the kits allow free two way movement of air.

Easy to check - pull it off and suck/blow through it.

Hey guys, got under the bonnet of my 2013 sr5 DC tonight after a friend pointed out that my rear diff breather needs to be raised up into the bonnet area.

The breather on the rear diff was easy enough to locate and I believe I found the breathers for the Front, Transmission and ADD. Am I right in believing that there should only be 3 valve's/caps to locate in the bonnet. 2 on the battery side of the engine and 1 at its rear that looks hard to get to? I can post photos if the description is vague

Thanks

Just a thought... was toying with the idea of joining all the breathers to a common block and then a 'feed' from the block to the air filter intake (dirty side) or snorkel.

Anyone done anything like this? Dont think routing the breathing into the snorkel will hurt and if you get water in there you are well and trully r00ted anyways...

$75 for the arb one. Super simple install and the most resonably priced item in an ARB store.

Here's some pics of my rear diff breather behind the back seat in my extracab. If water gets in there I'm in serious trouble. I fed the tube through a rear bung and ziplocked to the pipework

Did you end up purchasing this?

Could work well to also include the exhausts from my lockers

Has anyone ported into the clean side (after the air filter) of the air intake for the breathers?
I know a lot of military vehicles do it this way ie landrover and Mercedes from factory. I just wanted to know if there were any cons to doing this on the Hilux?

I put the BRC quad type in the new lux. Comes with everything you need. The product is great, and easy to install, and BRC ship real quick as well. I was very happy with their service.

I asked my mechanic to extend my rear diff breather and all he did was pop the cap off the original breather and clamp a length of hose on but he didn't put anything in the top of the hose.. Is that ok?

Definitely not. Insects can make a nest in there blocking it completely

I have looked through this thread, but I don't see a picture of the front diff stock breather location? Anyone have one? Saw the piggy back off the stock breather pipe, but not actual diff position.

Also anyone used this AoB/BRC breather kit? decent quality? ARB is equivalent is $150 and 8mm hose, these are 6mm
