Just the one you found is already extended to that point, it's a good idea to extend it higher. You also need to add an extended breather to the rear diff. Rear only has a breather sticking straight off the diff housing.

I did my gearbox and transfer case breather last week,I (have)had the gearbox/transfer case breather on top of the bellhousing left hand side,(08 model) its easier to see it from underneath the car passenger side,,do all your connections there(I used a 1/4 barb to 6mm pneumatic line)(then following it back on the drivers side to the transfer y peice to make sure its all still in tact), then feed it up through the bonnet,to where ever you feel is the highest point. to a tee piece with your front diff breather.
I can post pics tommorrow if it helps.

my rear breather runs up through the tub,and cable tied to my roof rack support bars in the canopy out of harms way.

Thanks, The rear diff breather seems to have a hex section which would indicate that it's threaded, not just pressed in as some folk are telling me, Is this right or is it just pushed in? some also say it's easier to get to the gearbox/transfer case through the top, removing the cover inside the cab.

yeh rear breather is a 1/8 bsp fitting,so screw that out, put in a pnuematic 6mm push in to 1/8bsp fitting run your hose to wher ever you like.
As for the gearbox and transfer mine was definitely clipped ontop of the bellhousing on the passenger side,as i said easier to reach from under the passenger side, very easy job really to do the hole lot.

I remember reading here somewhere a while ago that there were three breathers on top of the gearbox/transfer. I sussed mine out when I done the transfer case oil seals and this was true but they were all joined and ran up the firewall in the one hose that terminated up behind the engine.

Hi All,
So I'm keen on putting diff breathers up into the engine bay on my 2012 SR5 manual, but after having a quick read of this thread am right in understanding, I'd need to put breathers not only on the diffs, but the gearbox and transfer case to, to be safe? So in turn, I'd be running 4 separate pipes to the engine bay? Are the gearbox and transfer case ones just as necessary as the diff ones? Its something I didn't consider or know about really?

The large diameter hose is the diff breather and the small diameter hose is the breather for the A.D.D. unit.

Would these kits be suitable?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111106226417 ... 1423.l2649

or

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121139414410 ... 1423.l2649

I would like to get the kit all together so I don't have to muck around finding it all. Do I still need to get the factory Toyota breather (union)

Thanks Shaun

Anyone? Do these kits have anything you need? Does the hilux need the 4 ports? I have a 2012 SR5

Thanks

i have a 08 hilux sr, it has 2 breathers sitting above the bell housing behind the motor and off the firewall one for the gearbox and one for the transfer case.... the front diff has one coming up and sitting alongside the diesel fuel filter these were all factory and the rear diff had a pathetic little breather nipple on the pumpkin, so i bought a ebay kit and ran it up sitting flush with the base of the tray ( i dont go too hardcore in water)

Just a note for anyone who bought some of the original diff breathers(circa 2010??) , was under the truck last weekend and noticed the blue breather hose has gone brittle and had cracked open about 5cm up from the rear diff.

Haven't checked the front yet, I'm guessing the back is more open to sunlight, was an easy fix brought down some slack and recut and joined probably he last 10cm was really Brittle rest seemed ok.

I am looking for sintered bronze filters for my breathers in a 1/4" BSPP to replace the Festo paper filters. Anyone know where they are available on-line?

I'd reckon the oil would've caused the brittleness and cracking if it was that close to the diff. Just a thought.

Hi all, this question has probably been raised many times before, but anyway here goes, can some confirm what the 2 breathers located on LHS engine bay below fuel filter are and, the 2 on the back of the engine between fire wall. It's a 2010 sr5.
Cheers

Has anyone here had dramas with the rear diff genuine Toyota Union going all the way in? The thread is identical to the one way valve same length but seems to get tight around 2/3rds the way in. I backed it off and took it out, put the owv back in and packed up. :(

Line the threads up on top of each other. My bet is you have NPT fittings and they won't match. You need BSP.

Thanks, it's the right piece but I couldn't figure why it did not go the whole way down, turns out the owv breather doesn't sit all the way down either. Still a few threads between the diff housing and base plate of the owv breather. So it's right I just made a mistake :)
