No. The diffs are different and there is the extra wiring and associated electronics. Not worth the trouble or cost

Check your breather hose is attached. Mine used to do this and since refitting the breather hose it hasn't done it for a long while.

Just been reading all the write ups about flashing 4x4 light
I have a July 2011 sr5 and my light comes on after 30 to 40 minutes of driving in 2 wheel drive every time I use it.
If I turn off the motor then back on the light stops flashing, drive another 30 to 40 minutes and it starts flashing again.
Sometimes the light won't come on when I engage 4x4
My Hilux has only done 4 shallow water crossings about 8 months ago and none since, about which time the problem started. And has given the same scenario ever since.
I've had it to Toyota 3 times and they can not find any code faults in the computer to indicate what is coursing the problem.
Sounds like from what I've read here that water getting in to the A D D (not sure what this stands for) is the problem,
I might bring this to the attention of my local Toyota Service Department tomorrow.

Thanks
Dave

my SR5 always takes between 3 - 20 seconds to engage 4wd light when engaging / disengaging. I always thought it's normal (depends also on speed / terrain when engaging / disengagin)

On occasion it's taken even longer.

This sound normal?

Has anyone replaced the motor inside the ADD? I've cleaned and removed the corosion from the housing and i would love to just replace the motor. $20 motor as apposed to a $600 part seems like the way to go ;)

Any information would be great.

Ps if i find a replacement ill be sure to let you all know.

Cheers Justin

When I took my old ADD unit out, I cleaned the out the rusty water and the electrical terminals for the motor and put power to the motor directly and it spun.... I thought i may have fixed it, so I put it all back together but nothing happened.....

This indicated that the electic motor was fine, and the problem was elsewherere in the electronics.

So i bit the bullet and replaced the thing (See posts above)

A new ADD unit cost a fortune because you are force to pay for the entire assembly, gears, motor, leaver, electronics, etc... when the only thing wrong is the electical part. Check out the photo of the old one in two pieces above. Typical Toyota.

I maged to get mine for $480 (down from $600+) from a friend of a friend in Toyota, so ring around to try to get a good price

Try the fuse or check the connections at the control module behind the glove box...

Have you done the low range 4x4 mod? The connections here could be sus?

Failing that id be looking at the switch on the gear box.....

here is a ewd for you

I have seen the motor some time size up this causes the dl1 and dl2 not move , some times the soldered connection in the assembly brakes. if the add switch in the motor assembly on the front diff (refer pick shaded in blue) shows open and the dl1 and dl2 position indication does not move the light will flash to let you know there is a problem in that location

so short answer. jack one front wheel up and see if the diff is still engaged . if so the add is stuck hence the light.
if not the unit may be dirty and the dl1 and dl2 may be shorted out.

You might have to removed the unit. a easy job and check and clean it out

hope this helps.

Cheers boxhead ill have another play with it tomorrow. But I think my problem is I but different, I'm not getting a flashing light. I'm getting no 4x4 light at all... My front diff isn't engaging at all. When I pulled my ADD apart last week it looked clean as a whistle. All fuses and plugs on transfer and gearbox look fine.

When in L4 and H4 everything feels like low range except my diffs ain't engaging!! And no 4x4 light.. I can tell this because I'm trying it in my street normally when in 4x4 the diffs fight against each other. I'm stumped...:(

so it has to be a faulty 4x4 switch on the gear box or the earth or power to the 4x4 computer
