Rear disc brake conversion...

bj343...

Be very careful of that kit. It appears to be the same as the 'Runstop" product out of Thailand. Perhaps not the best kit?? I recently returned from Thailand and having seen it and spoken to a few guys in 4x4 shops... it and it is not my preferred option.

The front upgrade looks the goods though... I wonder if they are the DBA rotors?

Interested to see what their prices are!!

Cheers
Matt

Mine's a SR but i put 16" alloys on so i could use the bigger rear disc's and larger fronts 320mm rear and 330mm front, you can't use larger rotors on the front with 15" rims and the back your limited to 295mm disc's with 15" rims.

ACDC, do you have ABS? Does it matter if the ute has ABS or not? Will these kit fit to 4X2 utes too?

Rear disc brake conversion...

Thanks for this info acdc,

My hilux's braking capabilities even with the factory fitted abs, frankly scares the heck out of me. I've tuned up the self proportioning bar to no avail.

I'll have to look into these disc brakes. Q's for you acdc, if you don't mind.

1. How long have you had yours fitted for?
2. Have you had any problems with them, ie. over heating etc?

Thanks, Regards

I've had them since 2006 when the car was new, since then i have done 35,000km's with no problems at all, the only drawback is the handbrake is not as good as the original but still ok, as for overheating not a chance! as always products get bagged but usually by people with no experience with the product.

Rear disc brake conversion...

Hi how do these rear brake conversions go with Toyota as far as warranty is concerned, obviously the replacement disc will be covered by what warranty comes with the new discs.

But my concern is that any problems with the braking system ie master cylinders, std front discs may not be covered by warranty.

Finally suspect an engineers certifcate may also be required by the RTA in NSW. :(

Hi acdc, whats the problem with the handbrake? as in why does it not work as well if the braking performance has improved? does it require a larger lever? or something else?

Hi goldminer,
From what i can tell is the handbrake shoes don't have enough leverage force on them, but it has improved a lot as the shoes bed in.
I'm not sure about other states but in Vic no engineers required for brake mods at all.
Outback Accessories in Seaford have fitted them to several Hilux's before the customer has taken delivery, there for, technically they bought the vehicle with the conversion, no different from GVM upgrades etc.

Wherabouts in Sydney or Canberra can I get the disc brakes for the rear. Outback seems to be located in Victoria. Also can I run with the original front discs or does this create a problem.

Outback Accessories is also a TJM outlet so maybe your local TJM store could source them for you.
