Yes but trying to keep it simple and appear reasonably 'stock' . It's just adding more complexity and mechanical components to rattle/vibrate.

The tail shaft handbrake is simply very few components and obvious to see signs of anything wanting to come loose.there provably a bolt on bracket option but more things to 'rattle' loose

Pedders have recently released a product:
https://www.pedders.com.au/product-rele ... yota-hilux

I'm assuming this would fix the handbrake issue - the chap I spoke to at the Hobart store suggested it would but couldn't confirm as they'd not done one yet. He also suggested I wouldn't get much change from $3,000.

I'm after a handbrake solution because I think the current one is a notional at best, and quite a safety issue. I've a manual transmission so can't just leave it in park. To park it on a slope, I need to cut the ignition and leave it in gear - doable, but not ideal.

Looks like a quality kit, doubt it will improve the handbrake any but actual stopping power will definitely be better.

Anyone actually tried this kit? I went in and talked to the guys at Pedders and they said there is a 2 weeks waiting for the kit as it is far more popular than expected, can't seem to find any external reviews. They also said it's perfectly comparable with non-ABS as well

That looks like one of the US kits developed for the Tacoma's, just re-packaged by Pedders. There are a few kits available - UPI does a neat looking kit.

After a couple of scares towing heavy loads, I did some research and had fitted a Rear Disk conversion from Pedders. It is Fully Engineered for ADRs and has their back up of spare parts etc.
I could have got Pedders to do it, but I have a great mechanic and we did it together in a few hours.
Not for the home mechanic like me, as the wheel bearings have to be replaced.
I also got the matching ceramic front pads which helped even more.
I've now done the same trip with a similar load and no brake fade.
No more adjusting drums, no more mud and crud in the adjusters. :)
I believe they also do kits for KUN26

$3500 for a pair of rotors, some laser cut brackets, h/brake drum set-up and calipers....plus a few hours workshop time???? It looks like one of the US Tacoma kits that's been developed by someone else already so they don't even have those costs to recoup.........ridiculous.

Re: Rear disc brake conversion...

After a few “close calls” and a bit of research, I decided to get the rear disc conversion done through pedders.

Only just picked up the car and drove it a short distance home. First impressions are pretty good.
I do feel better stopping power to be better under light braking so far. Didn’t really get to do any serious stops and like I said it was only a short drive home (not even enough to get the brakes hot)

Driving to work tomorrow should give me a better idea, I might even be towing a small Excavtor tomorrow so that will be a good test.

I will update for those that are interested.

Update:

Towed a 1t mini excavator most of today and noticed the improvement in stopping power. Definitely noticeable during initial/light braking as well as during a harder stop.

Had a little bit of rain today in Sydney and even while towing I have a lot more confidence with the whole braking setup than I used to.

Being a TRD (the real one), I already have the larger 338mm brake setup. I also have DBA T2 slotted rotors and HEL braided lines installed on the vehicle. Got sick of having the rears adjusted and admittedly hadn’t attended to them in a while.
It is a daily work/play vehicle and is loaded to about 2.4t all day every day.
It has a 2” lift and 265/70 17 tyres.
It has always had reasonable stopping power however I was not satisfied and decided the rear disc conversion would be a good investment for safety reasons.

Overall I’m very happy with it so far and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is not happy with their Hilux braking or is looking into the rear disc conversion.

Hope that helps you guys/gals!
