Do you need to run the dust cover on the inner side of the cv near the diff mine is stuffed

Do you mean the CV boot?

OK so i have managed to get the drive shaft out easy enough but am struggling to get the new shaft back in past the circlip does anyone have any tips to get the new drive shaft back in?

Make sure the opening of the clip is at the bottom, wriggle the shaft in a circular motion and once it popps in give it a couple of thumps with a plastic hammer. Just be careful of the seal, sometimes they can pop in quickly and pinch the seal.

thanks mate got there in the end with a little percussive persuasion as advised by the toyota workshop manual.. a lot harder to put back in than to take out, now to top the diff back up and go for a test drive
