The Arb lockers make the Hilux front diff stronger because they replace weak components, is this correct? If this is true does the E-locker also have a similar effect?

I know that the ARB locker replaces the carrier which in turn makes it stronger, so my guess would be that the E locker would have to do the same but wherever it's stronger will depend on the strength difference on the Toyota carrier and the E locker. I saw a comparro of the lockers and the Axel broke before the ARB locker did any damage to it self. I can't remember how the E locker when but I know the ARB lock got voted number one, which is why I got it and the fact that you can have a compact compressor under the bonnet.

Yeah right, so if the E-locker replaces the carrier and is of similar strength to the Arb, then you could assume it may strengthen the front diff mechanism.

That's right, however the crown wheel and pinion are still the same strength as before, the only difference is when you use your locker you can climb up rutted hills risking less stress and shock loads to your diff and CV's, so if you look at it that way it kinda makes the whole drive line stronger, when put to use.

Ron : Do you have any advice where I could get a decent FRONT locker installed in Perth? By guys who truly know the hilux IFS front end?

I do not want an air locker ... I'd like either Elocker or Mechanical. Where'd you get yours?

Does it affect the ADD effectiveness at all? (i have searched a little but need some layman terms).

Mate of mine has an auto engaging front mechanical locker ... but for reasons I could not understand, that can't work in an IFS ADD front end (he might have it wrong).

Hilux Max wrote:Tacoma and early FJ's use the same rear diff....updated FJ's use a 8.4" rear diff, I beleive the 4 runner uses this diff too thou not 100% sure.

anything to suit a Tacoma diff will suit a hilux unless its got an E-locker fitted from factory in which case the center is different again.

Our hilux rear diffs are an 8"...just search for late model fourbys with the same rear diff and you should be fine.

so a FRONT Eaton Elocker from the states for a Tacoma would fit a Hilux with standard diff ratio?

I emailed a guy in the states, he said if i could give him the information from the diff he would try get me an elocker to suit. He asked for the gear ratio, how many spline axle it was and if i knew the make. I could only guess its a toyota diff im not sure. if anyone has any of that info for the rear diff i will get back and find out price and availability. i have an 08 4x4 d/c D4D

There's part numbers quoted in this thread (pretty sure, if not search e locker and you will quickly find it). Have a read, write them down and then give them to your mate in the States. The search button really is your friend.

Wiring mine up tonight. It couldn't be more basic, it's just a simple switch and relay with a pair of wires running to the diff housing.

The wiring is simple but allow a couple of hours to do both front and rear. I put the relays behind the glove box so put in extra fuse at battery. My mechanic fitted rear in about 2 hours and front about 4 hours or so, we upgraded the suspension at the same time all up about 10 hours :D
