Sounds like an interesting conversation In terms of Hilux brakes; we have had great success running Braided lines, DBA Slotted rotors and Bendix 4WD pads. For the guys that have wanted more, the Bendix Ultimate pads have also been really good. This type of upgrade makes a big difference and is all direct replacement. No need for modifying other parts or getting an engineer's approval.

We just do them for $89 each. Most Hiluxs have 3 lines so your looking at $267 + $10 Freight anywhere in Aus. (We don't currently do them for the later models fitted ESC which have 4 lines).

We get them made locally using Australian BrakeQuip parts. Each line is pressure tested, certified and stamped with the technician's number They are also available in either Black, Blue, Clear or Red.

3 lines?? where abouts do they run from?? the entire length of the brake line?? forgive my ignorance

I have the updated model and found that the rear now requires 2 lines..looked at my mechanics 2010 and the rear is definitely different.

On the earlier models; there's two on the front and one rear.
Later models have 2 rears which I believe run the same fittings. Just waiting on confirmation.

I did mine a couple of months back with the 120 Series Prado callipers, a pair of RDA slotted rotors and a set of Bendix 4x4 pads.

Braking performance now is AWESOME!!! Stops on a dime now

Mate you sure these are 150 series prado brakes?? I was under the influence it was the 120 series we are after??

These callipers came off a 2009 model and the rotors measure 338mm x 32mm thick. The 120 series rotors are 312mm x 28mm thick. I think the trade off is that I will have to shave the back of the calliper to run 16" rims.

Just measured the rda slotted rotors i ordered and bought from my local auto one store and they are 338mm x 28mm think.

I specifically asked for 120 series rotors and I got them to check if they changed at all over the years and they dont so yeah wierd hey

I've read that the 150 series rotors are thicker but I'm guessing the o/s diameter change is a furphy. Either way they should work and the braking performance you'll have will be heaps better!

You are totally right! My original post was right then I seemed to have lost my mind.. Mine are definitely the 120 series Prado brakes not 150's...

Top little thread. Just did the fronts as per Blackie2008 (Dans) effort above. Was already running 17's so was able to just grab a second hand pair of calipers ($300) and went with new DBA rotors and the bendix pads. Piece of piss to fit up. Straight bolt on. Should be the the brakes they come out with from the start. Best money I have spent. Have been putting up with shit brakes since I bought it. The missus hated driving it they were that sketchy. Will finish it off with the mod to the the rear load brake bias valve and it should be sweet.

17's though... Grrr! Just got quoted $550 each for 285x75x17 MTZ's. Gotta figure out how to put 16's on these without grinding the caliper!

Not going to happen man, you will need to grind some part of the caliper to fit 16"s. No choice...

I getting a set of FJ/4 Runner calipers coming in from the states soon to fit to my hilux. These are the same size as the VSC equipped Hilux's and rotor diameter is 18mm from memory less than Prado and FJ's were fitted with 16" alloys when they first came out.

I beleive it will be the only alternative for people like myself still wanting to run 16's.
