Jack,

bms said his mate had a truetrac many years ago, so was probably the solid axle lux. BUT I had a browse through the Opposite Lock website and they show a truetrac that fits a 27 spline hilux and prado front, they do not specify the year or model. So is our hilux this spline count or is it the older hilux? I could swear the guys at Opposite Lock know bugger all because I enquired about the cost of the Detroit and they were like ummm ahhhh, do we even sell Detroit lockers lol! If Bull says we dont get the Truetrac for the front I believe him;)

Regards
Gav

Does anyone know about fitting the TrueTrac to the front ?? I have been told by a supplier they are great in the front but need to be convinced otherwise i'll invest in an E-Locker...

After calling into Harrop's head office in Melbourne the other day and chatting to the guy's there about the Tru Trac and it's off road application, it appears to be less than ideal. According to them, it's been designed more as a tarmac device and great for towing. To get it to work off road, when you c**k a wheel you would need to apply light brake pressure, it doesn't behave like a locker in that scenario. That just leaves you the choice of a Detroit or an E locker from Harrop

didn't get as far as a price on the Tru Trac, once I heard that I lost interest pretty quickly. But i can tell you the E locker was about $1540 RRP plus fitting.
I was hoping to find an answer to the open diff on the road, you know, something that drives like a good LSD on road and a fully locked diff off road. Tru Trac isn't for me......

It does exist, just not for the Hilux, (google Auburn Gear Ected Max) Detroit used to have a similar version using the Trutrac, with an electronic full lock option called the electrac or something like that.

So what you need is a custom diff housing using a centre that works with the Ected, might need some fresh fertiliser for your money tree first though ;)

Would a True Trac work well in the front in a Traction control equipped vehicle?

I have just sold my 100 series and want to buy a Hilux. I don't know if I should be looking for one with traction control and all the other electric bits.

I had a Pro locker in my 100 series and it was a PITA. slow to engage some times, would not engage other times. compressor failed on OTL, I would not get an Air locker again.

I would always go selectable locker in the front diff especially in a Hilux

(SR doesn't disconnect front diff)
