I also bought some connectors, as the breathers for the gearbox and transfer case come up behind the motor, so I just extended these with the hose and connectors.

Same from the front diff and ACC, just used connectors off the current hose and extended these 2 as well, using a Y connector/joiner.

I only ran the read diff full length as this has nothing but a 1 way valve as stock

Incman, could u please tell me what joiner u used for the gearbox hose.... Is it something like a 8mm to 6mm barb type, (if using 6mm hose).. Thanks

Run your rear diff breather up into your left side tail light bay, can't see the point in wasting breather hose.

Also, with the way most of our Hilux's sit with a nose down attitude the breather will be higher that what it would be if mounted in the engine bay.

Hi Banger, I'll have to check the exact diameters, I bought a few different sizes to try out. Pretty sure all the joiners were the same diameter, except the ADD hose that comes up with the front diff breather, than was a larger diameter than the rest

Hey all, another question to follow on from my previous post.

1. Those with FJ Cruisers mention lengthening their e-locker breather along with the rear differential breather. For those with a rear locker, have you done this/is this entirely dependant on the type of locker you have?
2. Can anyone share some direction on the fuel tank breather? It doesn't seem to be as widely installed as the other four breathers but I may as well do them all if I'm doing the other four. I saw a mention saying that extending this into the engine bay might be dangerous (flammability) - any comments? I'm thinking of running it to the tail light housing.
3. The extra transfer case breather - can this only be completed when the transfer case has been removed?

For those buying the Billet Race Craft (BRC) Quad Breather Kit - it won't come with the suitable fittings for the breather above the bell housing (transfer case breather, I think). For picture reference, see this post - it references the breather as the gearbox breather.

For reference, here is the size difference of the barbed...cap? that was installed at stock. The BRC kit came with 6mm push-in fittings so I'd say you need a 4mm barbed joiner/male thread to a 6mm push-in connector, like this. I can't confirm, though (yet to do that breather).

This was on an '06 SR, Diesel Manual.

are most people just doing the diffs or doing the other breathers aswell ??

Not sure what most people are doing. Perhaps most people wouldnt be driving thru anything over 500mm.

Not to be confused with the fuel neck filler breather which is just for equalisation during filling and can not breathe when the filler cap is on.

Inside is a semi-one way valve. This valve pictured is biased to more freely allow air flow IN to the tank. The bias doesnt make sense until you think about fuel temperature and rapid contraction from water crossing.
Have heard they can get clogged with dust, moisture, mud etc causing the tank to partially collapse

yep drivers side of engine bay against the side wall Luke. You could put it on the passenger side so you don't have to go across the rear of the engine bay but takes up room if you have a dual battery.. Does anyone know how high the oem gearbox and transfer case breathers are? I have only hooked up the front and rear diff and ADD breathers so far.

are diff breathers a must ?? or just a cheap insurance ?? i want to put some on my sr5 just for piece of mind but i won't be doing my suspension for another few months or so is it ok just to leave plenty of slack in the hoses for the lift later on ??

You'll be fine if ya leave slack mate. In the rear I just ran the hose along side the brake line. And I consider then a must if ya intend on doing any serious water crossings, doesn't have to be very deep to get water in ya diff.

legend thanks mate always wondered how all those test cars held up without the proper diff breathers. i just got my snorkel on so will get the diff breathers put on asap cheers mate

To easy. Also be aware the front diff has two breathers if it has add, one on the diff itself and the other one the add unit. Good idea to do the gearbox, transfer case and fuel tank also.

ok cool im just getting arb to do it do you know what they will do in their kit ??

I have that kit in my rig (I'm a fitter for an arb store) ya get enough bits to do most of the job, ya will need a couple of extra bits for the gearbox but you'll work it out. The arb breather only has 4 inlets but ya need 5. I just ran the hose for the add unit as high as I could and put the essential ones in the breather block. I went and bought a heap of extra hose and fittings but didn't use any of it. Just go thru and have a look at all the factory ones and you'll make do with what ya have in the kits.
