Front lockers

This sounds scary, I will think twice about using my front locker in the future
I haven't had trouble yet. I've used my front locker at least a dozen times. I don't think I needed it on all these occasions, but I used it cause I can. I suppose it's just a matter of time before I break a cv???

Have you seen the Dvd by 4x4 action trip to the cape where Roothy breaks a Cv under a winch with both lockers engaged. Was told by the guys at arb that a lockers would reduce the chance of drive line failure due to none of the wheels being able to overspeed and drop onto the ground and cause a shock through the driveline. But I guess if you have the vehicle at max wheel spin under both lockers and a front wheel gets really good traction on a bump, that torque has to go somewhere as the rest of the driveline is locked and the Cvs are the most flexible items in the drive line.

Yes, i've done some hard work with both front & rear activated. Both front wheels off the ground on an A+ grade track (Hard) Very steep with big rock steps and deep ruts. I haven't had trouble yet. I've used my front locker at least a dozen times. Turning on full lock is the killer. I turn off my front locker if i have to turn full lock.

harrisbm, just a couple of questions on how you broke you cv’s....
You mentioned you were in a comp when you broke your cv’s. Was the terrain extreme?
I imagine you were going pretty fast in a comp scenario? Were you driving hard?
Did you break the front locker as well as the cv’s?

Cheers

Was down at CBC this morning to pick up an order for parts. Noticed that they had Cvs counter. Asked the guy if they sold CV's for the 07 hilux. He gave me quote for one. It was $197 + gst. Included shaft boots and both Cv joints. It is a complete unit. Seems more competitve than nearly $900 bucks from Toyota. He also said they are ambidextrous and can be used on both sides.

I would not b e buying them after all the stories I hear of cheap cv's from China not lasting very long.
I've been on 4b trips with 4wdaction guys breaking cv's then complaining about cheap ones not lasting, also spoke to Yuri a while back and they have said the same so only OME for me.

They come with a 20000km 12 month warranty. Don't plan on snapping one myself. But at that price it could be a handy spare part to carry around when touring. In case you break one in the middle of nowhere. Will chase up a little more info on them on where there manufactured and build quality.
