Just completed the Prado front brake upgrade

I got braided lines as well

For anyone with Toyotas piss poor version of Hilux I strongly reccomend this relatively cheap and easy upgrade. The new stopping power is sensational

What parts parts did you get exactly... Im just trying to get a list of everything i need before i start then realise i missed something:

Prado 120 brake caliper x2
Rotors
pads
fluid
backing plates optional

any other brake line parts or just the calipers themselves????

Your stock brake lines will work fine :)

I've recently completed this little project as well & confirm what blackie2008 and others have said.

You will need:
2 x 120 series Prado rotors (I used 2nd hand stock Prado units & had them machined)
2 x 120 series Prado calipers
1 set x new brake pads to go with your shiny rotors (brand of your choice)
Brake Fluid (Dot 3)is what is specified for these vehicles. 1 bottle was plenty to do a full brake flush & bleed

My existing rigid brake lines married straight up.

Changing backing plates is not really required, just gently bend back the existing ones. If you do decide you want to put Prado baking plates on, you will be making the job a much bigger one as the backing plate is mounted further in & from memory would require removal of the hub assembly as well. I personally can't see any advantage in doing so - unless you already had/were going to dismantle the front end completely.

In conjunction with this (if you are like me & your rear automatic adjusters don't work), make sure you adjust - & keep adjusted - your rear brakes as well.

All up, for under $350.00 and a few hours & of my time, a very worthwhile exercise. :D

DBA manufacture cross drilled rotors. Personally I prefer the T3 Slotted Rotors by themselves.

Hey has anyone successfully done this on a 4x2 model yet? Wheel clearance shouldnt be an issue as i have 22" wheels but mostly concerned about brake mounts lining up etc. Might be an issue with the whole 5 stud / 6 stud thing? Could someone maybe please measure from centre of axel to each mounting hole, and from mounting hole to mounting hole? If someone could please let me know would be excellent thanks! :D

Just an update. Did this upgrade, and got my pink slip yesterday. While I was there I asked them to see if they could make my brakes any better. Hand brake and foot brake. Because after the upgrade I was left a bit disappointed.
Dunno what they did but she defiantly pulls up quick now. Feels a lot safer, would even be willing to let my misses have a drive now.
