Will the new seal reduce the play as the passenger side has about 3-5mm play(leaking side) where S the drivers side has a bout 1mm. I slid into a big rut on that side over the weekend and nearly put the Lux on its side. Worried I've done more than a seal??

Apparently its normal for the passenger to have more play because of how the bearings are on that side. I asked toyota about mine when it started leaking one day cos I thought I'd done a bearing or something. They said it fine, just throw a new seal in it. That was nearly two years ago and it hasn't blown up yet.

Also I have checked others when I've had them on the hoist at work and most seem to have plenty of play on that side.

I've just put my ute in to get the passenger seal done for the 5th time this year and got them to check everything as I'm sick of it leaking and it turns out there was excessive play in the planetary gears and they needed to be re shimmed to fix the problem otherwise the cv moves around to much and pulls the seal out and will leak again.
Had this explained to me so don't know to much about it

Changing the seal is a pretty straight forward job. Have a read of this viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10118
It took me leas than an hr to swap out mine when i busted a cv boot. It is also a handy thing to be able to do incase you ever break one out bush

Hi my hilux just started leaking from here too. Is it fine to drive the car in 2wd without doing any damage due to low diff oil?

Depends on how bad it's leaking, mines been weeping on and off for well over a year! I'll be fix8it when I do a re-gear and front locker later in the year.

Just did the front axle/diff seal today. The one on the right is the newer one, about $20 from Toyota from memory. Had to ask for this specific seal as my vin still pointed to the old seal.
Also worth noting the later model kun26r's have a bigger metal dust ring on the CVS also

Shaft definitely popped in properly? Also very easy to roll the seal when fitting the shaft.

Yes, pretty sure it's in properly makes that solid noise of when it's in, is there anyway of avoiding the seal to roll over?

Should the seal be leaking without the cv in?

Any one be able to help with a problem I'm having, changed cvs and did the inner diff seal (where cvs slide into diff) originally drives side started to leaks and was just told it'd be the seal, figured while I was there might as well change the cv as they were starting to click abit, changed passanger side seal as well as diff seal, however drives side is still leaking and has dropped all the oil over night, any ideas?
