HELP! 5sp Auto downhill noise and disconnection

Postby Gibbo360 on Wed, 28 Dec 2016 5:09 +0000

Hi,

I have an 07 sr5 auto 5sp v6. When off road crawling down a hill sometimes the gearbox makes a noise that sounds like a spool down and it feels like the engine and the gearbox has disconnected. It's mainly if I try slowing down and hit a small bump and mainly when I have L selected. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and explain why it does this? Does the gearbox think it's helping by taking away the engine power?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did search but didn't find anything.

Update. Turns out heavy breaking causes it too.

Yep I get this from time to time.
I believe it's the ABS locking up a wheel.
