Weird soft clunk taking off in 1st

Postby Steveyb on Wed, 10 Jun 2015 1:54 +0000

Ok chaps, had a search but not able to find anything relating to this so please direct me to a thread anyone knows of one.

My problem is when taking off in 1st gear I get this thud sound/jolt. Clutch pedal released all the way and accelerating and after about 2 metres of travel it feels as though something in the driveline or clutch has finally grabbed (not slipping if that makes sense)

The clutch does not slip at all in any other scenario, it's a safari tuff clutch and has been in for about 2000 ks now.

It does this about 50% of the time. Anyone have ideas as to what to look for?

Does anyone have

Cheers, geebung. I'll have a look at slave and tail shaft this arvo.

Clutch feels good/normal. I'd hate to think it's something to do with the clutch because I had to argue so hard with Toyota to fit an aftermarket one under my warranty claim

I had a similar issue, took it to two gearbox and diff specialists and they said it is normal and when loaded it will be less obvious.

Think thats the later generation ones, not the pre-2016 models.

I still haven't figured this one out, but then again I stopped caring..... Still does it, can even come off acceleration in third gear and then get back on again and it will do it. had a mech look at it and they reckon everything is fine and looks normal (aside from the clunk I guess)

My LN167r does it and so does my old mans LN106. I haven't had any issues with the drive neither has the old bloke. Ours don't do it off then on again with the acceleration though.

I have a 2014 auto. I notice 1st to 2nd clunk quite often. I seem to have diff backlash though if sitting around 50-60km/r and the box is in 4th or 5th if I tap the accelerator on and off I will get some backlash. Might need to have my diff checked out at least but not sure about the 1st to 2nd clunk.
