Hi all. After my 2" lift I'm getting vibration in first gear only. Is this the cause? I'm unsure if spacers were used. Will this vibration cause damage to anything and does anyone know a god place in Perth or south of Perth that can fix this? Thanks for any advice

Just thought I'd pipe in here. I'm running about 3" lift front and rear or there about. Been experiencing a really rough shudder on first gear starts that gets worse when carrying a load. Have recently had the clutch replaced so I could rule that out as an issue.

Using a spirit level and some good old fashioned Trigonometry I found there was about a 1.8 degree different between the diff and transfer yokes, with the diff yoke being the steeper.

I had already purchased a 1 degree wedge from superior engineering before measuring the angle, otherwise I would have got a 2 degree wedge. They're about $80 for the pair.

Without jacking the ute, I undid the U-bolts on the leaf springs and used the bottle jack to lift the springs up and away from the saddle, just high enough to slide the wedge in. I installed the wedges with the fat end towards the front of the ute as this should bring the yoke angles to within 1 degree of each other.

After a brief test drive virtually all of my first gear shudder is gone! It's completely transformed the way it drives. Really can't believe how often this is overlooked when people lift their ute.

I have the same problem and I got a 4 inch lift done by superior and they said nothing about putting a wedge in the leaf rings to change the angle,my pinion bearing just let go at 35k and made a terrible whine so opposite lock in cairns fixed it when fitting my e lockers got covered under warranty even with the lift lucky thing is that toyota in cairns owns opposite lock and does all there work in the workshop for them so wasn't a hassle to get accessed and done under warranty

Hey guys, has anyone come across these caster wedges fixing a vibration in 4th gear at 60km/h at around 1600- 1800 rpm?

Cheers, Marc.

Sounds like you have almost the exact problem I have, in which I wasn't able to get an answer from anyone.

I've installed caster wedges and whilst they fixed the 1st gear start shudders it didn't do anything for the vibration I was getting at 60km/h in 4th

Damn was hoping someone had come across a fix for this so I didn't have to do it the long way. I've swapped shafts with known good ones, have different wheels and tyres, spaced the centre bearing but haven't checked angles yet. Will keep you updated with what I find. Out of interest what year and style is yours? And are you running an aftermarket clutch?

05 Single cab D4D, xcedy h/duty clutch (less than 5k old)

I've got my driveshaft angles nearly bang on but never once has it affected the vibrations, which appear to be load related as well (worse going up a hill for example).

Yep that's the exact problem I have. I've got a friend at a diff n gearbox place asking around if anyone's come across it before so I'll definitely let you know what I find if you want to do the same if you discover a fix.

Would appreciate that, it's been like it since I've had it and frankly it's driving me bonkers!

So did you end up finding the 4th gear vibration problem? i just found this thread and was about to go out and get some wedges but thought i would ask to see if you ended up fixing it.

Hey mate, i ended up swapping my clutch, flywheel and gearbox with known good ones and it has fixed my problem. Not sure which fixed it as i did them all at the same time. Hope this helps.

Darn. I've had a new clutch installed a few months ago but it didn't help the vibrations at all - was thinking of swapping the gearbox but I was hoping to avoid that given the expense involved and the uncertainty that it would fix anything.

jeez that is an expensive overhaul, as said before you can still drive to avoid it by just holding 3rd a bit longer to get over 60kph

Thought i would contribute as this is my experience

Put in snake racing extended 2" shackles in the rear to match the lift in the front

Noticed a slight clunk when shifting into first and an even louder clunk when changing from first gear into second gear. I would get vibrations through the whole car from 60-100km under light throttle.

I spaced the centre bearing down about 14mm using a pack of washers and 2 longer bolts.
The vibrations are totally gone and the clunking is 95% gone. There is a slight clunk going from 1st to 2nd but thats how its been ever since ive owned the thing. If i grease the tailshaft it will probably go

If this didn't work i was going to give the 1degree wedges a try but im happy how it is now

Hope this helps someone else
