Picked up my new Hilux today

Graphite SR5 extra-cab; tub swapped out for a HD steel tray painted black, 18" black TRD wheels.

Within minutes the ugly chrome grille was replaced with a black TRD one (no emblem, but including a black bonnet garnish).

Image

(Yes, that's my old Hilux behind it.)

There's now a fire extinguisher installed on a KAL bracket in front of the driver's seat, and the big white (why would they put a huge white TOYOTA sticker on the back of a black tray?) TOYOTA sticker removed.

Tomorrow: install rear camera on demand switch, mirror fold on lock module, black front TRD bash plate, Lightforce ROK worklights and reversing lights, Toyota TPMS system.

Next week, Bridgestone D697 Dueler ATs, with TPMS senders, black Kincrome steel under-tray tool boxes, weathershields and headlight protectors will be installed.

Next month, the black ARB Summit bar, Warn Magnum winch, Safari ARMAX snorkel, FYRLYT Nemesis 9000 driving lights, REDARC dual battery system, REDARC 750W inverter, ProVent catch can and Fuel Manager fuel filter go on.

After that... I'm thinking about Rhino Backbone mounts, a Tradie platform with a wind deflector and an awning. Probably an on-board compressor. Maybe a Apple CarPlay-compatible head unit. Possibly a Beaudesert DPF-back exhaust and a Steinbauer module?

Looks good and the future plans sound like it'll be a cool rig.
Now clean up the shed and throw some paint on the window sills of the house or i'm calling the missus

Ah, the shed. Starts out good, then a new project turns it to shit. Then I clean it up, then I start a new project...

Window sills? Always a heap to do on an old house. Happily, though, they're not actually the sills; they're heavy planks on brackets as shelves for pot plants (when it's not frosting every night).

Wasn't meant to be racist... was talking about rugby.

Here, the SR5 is available as an extra-cab - but not cab-chassis. I bought it as a tub ute and had the HD steel tray installed prior to delivery.

Ah, OK, good. I didn't want to cause offence. We're bringing the Bledisloe home this year, though.

The SR5 Extra Cab only comes in an Auto though. You can get the SR Extra Cab in a manual, but only a tray not a tub. You can get a SR Extra Cab tub in a manual, but not in 4X4. Whats the go with that?

Oh, that's harsh.

How many World Cups have you won?

Yes, and you can't get premium (powered, heated, leather) seats in an SR5 extra-cab.

Not everyone wants the extra row of full-size seats at the cost of tray length, Toyota...

Correct.

I find some of the spec levels / options a bit odd.

I like the look of the new Rogue, with the new style front end etc, the exterior black trim and black interior, but again only comes in Auto.

It's amazing what options we miss out over here, lane departure, sign recognition, adaptive cruise control.

It's beginning to look like a ute now... not least of which because it's a bit dirty now.

Image

Progress so far:
  • BF Goodrich A/T KO2s (no Bridgestones available)
  • Kincrome steel under tray toolboxes (had to cut away some of the headlight-levelling sensor's shield to fit)
  • Rhino-rack Tradie Platform with wind deflector
  • Lightforce ROK reversing and work lights
  • ProVent catch can
  • blacked-out mirrors, doorhandles
  • SupaFit seatcovers
  • headlight protectors, bonnet protector, weather shields

...and just over 2000km.

Nothing so hi-tech - just stick-on covers from eBay. Looks fine from 20'.

K02's are stock size.
