Hi there,

I have been using this forum for sometime now mainly for ideas and info etc and thought it was time i wrote bit about my n80.

So from the top, Heres where it all starts. The n70 i had before the n80. Had this for a couple of years and it served me well, then a mate offered me a good price for it so it was time for a upgrade.
Image
So after browsing the toyota website for a little i decided i was pretty happy with a hilux to replace the older hilux as it suited my needs, 4 door, 4x4, turbo diesel ect. Spent a few weeks deciding on colour and decided on the graphite, and ended up with the below.
Image
Included at time of purchase was TJM front and rear bar work, I figured it wouldn't look all that bad in black as i had more planned to come.
Image
Took about one week and less then 1000klms on the clock before it hit the sand for the first time. A little before and after pic.
Image
Fitted some SCF black sliders as the car was going to be used for some offloading and having damaged sills before was not keen on doing the same to my new car.
I had the Rooftop tent and rack from previous hilux so adapted the rack i had to suit newer hilux, Nothing overly pretty but would do the job.
Image
Image
Image
It was probably about now i started planning to take it to the cape in june 2017, So figured a good place to start was with a snorkel. This was done at Fabulous Fab power coated stainless seamless short entry.
Image
Image
Image
I didn't plan on running the RTT and rack all of the time and one thing i regretted not getting fitted at the dealership was a tonneau. So found one through Facebook and made it fit with what rails it came with and some other commodore leftover rails i found lying around the shed. It did the job for the time being.
Image
As i was planning to take it to the cape i thought next step would be some better off road suited tyres. I found these on gumtree for a bargain. Only achillies 265/60/18s so same as factory rolling diameter and got a mate to fit them up for a carton of beer.

Went fishing out at a dam and took the RTT, For anyone curious as to what it looks like all setup with the rack.
Image
It was well overdue, the original toyota springs had sagged with the added weight of the bar work. As it turned out a mate at a suspension shop needed a car for research and development on some coil overs to trial fit. So i was able to talk them into fitting some lifted springs/ struts for a good price. Lift is 2 inch king spring front, 10mm spacer, 2 inch rear oztec springs and oztec outback springs all round.
Image
Cape york was nearing and i had some last minute prep to be done. This included UHF, Roof racks, Matrax mounts, awning and some plastic door handle covers

So we departed bramwell junction and made our way through palm creek. Made it a couple of Klms up the old tele track and hit a tree stump with the front left hand wheel. This then also hit the rear and punctured the rear tyre as well as causing the front hub locator between upper and lower control arm to bend which in turn caused the tyre to rub on the upper control arm. And given we were a couple of days drive from Cairns where toyota might have a replacement we wedged it into a trailer hitch and proceeded to bend it back with the help of a fellow cars winch. Worked a treat and helped me make it the rest of the tele track on a highway terrain, out to weipa and all the way back to the gold coast.

Bought a replacement part, Spent a few days cleaning inside, outside, underneath and everywhere else possible. Really wanted a new set of wheels but the finances didn't permit it. So factory wheels got a coat of plasti dip to change up the look, Painted and fitted the factory sports bar as well and it was back to mall crawling duties for the time being.

So i was back to the grind, Washing the ute and saving up my pennies, Eventually saved enough for a new set of wheels. Ended up going with some alloys 17x9 with a 285 tyre (roughly 33") and then proceeded to do some trimming.

I can only see two pics, all the rest are disabled. Maybe try posting photos with something other than photobucket? Or am I being stupid and there's an easy way around this???

Real shame because would be an awesome thread otherwise.

The images are not showing due to photobucket being crap and limits the bandwidth you can use to show them.

Here is an alternative that is better :)

Few more photos showing up today. Really is an awesome looking build, I don't think I'll ever stop getting jealous when I see a ute in that graphite colour haha.

Are those black badges off ebay? I lost a few of mine tearing through thick scrub and saw the all black when looking for replacements, I reckon I'll go for them. Easy enough to swap the lot over???

Cheers.

Hey mate, Nah just took the opportunity to get a photo. The drop in is that much more intense in real life then it looks in pictures would have to have some serious guts to give that a go.

Hey mate all photos should now be working properly, Sorry about that. Badges were just painted with plasti dip paint. Didn't really hold up over a long period but still improved the look. Might end up looking at ebay painted ones eventually.

Whats the ET on the wheels you got to fit 285? They look sick!

hey, what's the offset on your wheels? Had a look at the KMC website and they only have your wheels in zero offset listed with the toyota bolt pattern. Going by your pics, they don't really look like zero offset rims as I would expect them to stick out more. The reason I ask is I have +18 offset wheels on 265 tyres and want to fit 285s, but think wider tyres are gonna hit my UCAs.

Also, are you still running stock UCAs? Reckon you could post a pic of the angle when you're sitting flat and wheels are straight? My UCAs are at a fairly extreme angle, so I'm tossing up between getting blackhawks or SPC/caloffroad UCAs.

EDIT: pic of my UCA angle for comparison

hey mate, how are you finding the arb ascent canopy?
ive got a hardlid, but thinking of going down this path.
How is it for dust and water proof-ness?? does the central locking work on all windows, or just the rear?
any info much appreciated!
cheers.
