2017 SR5 Hilux Build

Postby Eceuro on Sat, 03 Feb 2018 6:14 +0000

Hi there, here’s my new Hilux SR5 that I have big plans for.
I’ve already fitted Iron Man Bullbar, winch, Recovery points and rear protection tow bar. Still hasn’t hit 1000kms yet.
Here some photo of it so far.

Looking good mate. Recommend some heavy duty springs next to cope with the extra front weight otherwise that front will sag like a mofo. What are your plans for upgrades?

Cheers thanks mate. I got a tough dog 2inch lift kit sitting at work ready to go on. Just need to find some time. I’ve also ordered some 17x8 wheels and 285/70r17 Goodyear wrangler MTRs..
My other plans for upgrades are uhf and snorkel. Then put it to the tracks for some action.

Finally found some time to fit my tough dog 2inch lift kit. Looks amazing. Unfortunately I ran out of time to adjust the alignment. Frustrating having to leave it at the workshop. Early start tomorrow to get it sorted. I’ll post some more pictures tomorrow.

I’ve fitted my wheels and tyres but only problem is lots of scrubbing off road. I’ve ordered a pair of black hawk upper control arms to correct the caster then another W/A. Also think I need more lift.

Looking good all round, especially those tyres!

Shame about the scrubbing, did you get before/after measurements re the suspension because I thought Toughdog lift kit was advertised as 40mm (not 2") lift?

I’ve got the measurements at my workshop. It’s a 50mm kit and the measurements were slightly more with standard wheels. I’d say after a week or so of driving it would have settled to 50mm. I think I’ll order some strut spacers and longer rear shackles to get some more lift.

Where's it scrubbing? Lift is not usually the way to fix it, more likely need caster set forward which you're obviously doing next.

Eceuro, steer clear of strut spacers, its only going to end in tears.

Heaps of info for why not to use them below, but for the "Too long, didn't read" version, look at the pictures on pages 6 and 13.

Im sure plenty of others will second my opinion.

Cheers, Cam

I second what Cam has posted about strut spacers.

Ok I’m going to fit the upper control arms and re-align. I think I’ll steer away from the strut spacers after everyone’s advice and lot more research myself. Only problem is I definitely need more lift so I’m going to bite the bullet and look into 4inch kit.(brake lines, diff drop etc)
This is what I’m dealing with. Picture is bad quality. It’s a still from a video.

Here’s the link to the videos. I had to add music because I kept cringing at the scrubbing sound.

How do you find the Ironman gear mate? Looks pretty good and hard to argue with the price compared to ARB

Nice looking rig... Wheels look great, be interested to see what you need to do to get those tyres working well. Got the uca's yet?
I spoke to a suspension guy and they do a lower arm mod that can get those front wheels even further forward if needed.

I fitted the lower control arms on the weekend and had alignment done today. There’s more clearance between the rear of the tyre and the guard. Only problem now is sway bar is sitting to close to the strut. Ive ordered a spacer kit from superior Engineering and also a diff drop kit while I’m at it.$$$

$$ add up quick don't they!! I like the look of the Buds custom diff drop and bash plate that goes with it...
But no... I'm not lifting or doing any of that for a few years anyway... Look forward to the almost 33" wheels working!
