2wd 2tr-fe hilux thread

Hi.

Here's my build thread which I'll try not to bore you with too much. I've noticed a lot of 4wd builds going on so at least mine will be different. I wanted a cheap to register and insure but plenty of power 2wd ute to scare the knickers off just about everyone so I started looking around for a 2tr-fe hilux.

I have 4 kids and so the workmate was the ticket... and a hell of a lot sexier than any of those stupid 7 seater Honda is etc lol. I saw some pics of the F150 thunders and I thought 'yeah I can do that... but on a smaller more Aussie scale" so with those pics as my inspiration I went shopping.

I missed out on a couple of good deals but as luck would have it I came across a 2006 model that had been owned by a mechanic. It already had upgraded head unit, 2 amps, subwoofer very well installed. Yes I love my music. The rear had been lowered 2.5 inches. 18 inch mags and a internal rollcage installed. An aftermarket security system as well. Perfect.

It also had a roof rack and I wanted to be able to carry a ladder so the first thing I did was install the rear ladder bar.

I already feel like a bit of a tosser for calling this a build thread as I'm sure there's plenty of guys putting a lot more effort into their REAL builds but don't hold it against me.

I had a Garrett Gtx28 turbo sitting in the workshop and new this was going to find a place under the bonnet. From what I read I could run 6psi no dramas with the toyota ecu so this was my plan.

While waiting for the turbo I did a few cosmetic changes. Headlight covers, front grill swap, bonnet scoop (for space but mainly to look like the F150 lol) and painted the front bumper to match the body.

Ok sorry but I kind of forgot about this thread till someone replied. A lot happened in the meantime. I’ve been getting good times out of the current set up on the quarter but need a bit more. There was a flat spot down low but only lasted a second. Now I’ve gone with a gtx30 turbo. Meant changing the manifold and the exhaust and as it isn’t a Garrett I now have an external wastegate.

Changing the exhaust soon as currently goes from 3 inch down to 2.5. Recently got a car hoist in the workshop so that makes life easier:))

Lastly as my rear wheels now hang out 2 inches past the tub I have an extra cab tub from a 2017hilux and I plan on modifying it all to fit as I want the extra 300mm on the tub as well.
