Flacky's SR5

Hey guys,

I thought in addition to my shed I thought would start a build thread here to share my (slow) modding journey. I have lots of plans and with my experience modifying my previous Subaru Forester I know what it means by "pay to play".

I will be trying to do the majority of modifications and general servicing myself as I enjoy it and find it to be satisfying to have achieved things in my own carport.

Current mods:

2" shocks and springs, 2" rear shackles
17" Moto Metal Alloys with Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70/17 AT
Magnaflow straight through muffler
OEM Nudge bar
Light bar
Darkest legal tint

Future mods:

Bull bar
Rock sliders
Rear bar
Downsize wheels to either 15" or 16" and try keep current tyre size
Roof racks (have Rhino XTray ready to fit from previous car
Alloy Tray
Upgrade head unit

Here is how she looks from when I purchased it:

Haha yes indeed. That grill is the biggest problem. I know all about the blackout life - here is the old Forester

Hey guys, what's everyone's opinion on stock nudge bars and bull bars. I currently have the nudge fitted and have access to a stock bull bar. I don't plan on any rock crawling or anything other than beach trips. Should I keep the nudge or will the bull bar be a better option?

Thanks

Not too many in that colour, haven't ever seen one that I can recall. Where are the fog lamps?

The first thing you need to do is upgrade the front brakes, the standard ones are inadequate with that tyre diameter. Fairly cheap mod too, just need 120 series Prado calipers and backing plates and new rotors.

Thanks mate I'll be adding this brake upgrade to the list. I have found the relevant topic on the forums for future reference.

As for the bull bar, the one in question is pictured below. I'd want to upgrade to something like the ARB later but looking for something for the mean time. I won't bother if my nudge bar is adequate for beach trips though.

Yes, chrome is pretty gross on my colour hilux so would need painting.

I wouldn't bother changing it over personally. Those big useless alloy things are just unnecessary weight and offer little or no protection at all!

Noted thanks mate, I'll just stick with the nudge bar for now

Front bar doesn't add anything for beach use really, aside from somewhere to hang your rods from.

Finally got a set of Rhino racks for the Hilux. I was then able to add the XTray I had from the Forester and boy does it look small on the Hilux...
