Well, after my 2009 SR5 dual cab met an unfortunate end, I bit the bullet and forked out for a new 2016 SR5 dual cab manual diesel, in silver sky.

The old beast (click on the pictures to re-size them!)

Only 32km on the odo!

She is stock as a rock at the moment, except for headlight covers, dash mat and front and rear floor mats.
Got some supafit canvas seat covers on order.
New shoes early next week (BFG KO2's 265/65R18)
Then hopefully some bar work, snorkel and spotties from ARB late next week.
Looking forward to seeing what these new ones are capable of!!

Nice one. Looking forward to seeing your build. Are you keeping the stock rims with your BFGs?

yeah stock rims.
would have liked to go with a 17inch rim, but funds didnt allow it. ill see how the stock rims go in the meantime.

So, I've made a pretty big dent in the piggy bank, but I'm very happy with the outcome.

First was some new rubber- 265/65R18 BFGoodrich KO2's, slightly larger than stock and no rubbing (very close to the front mudguard at hard lock though)

Next was a bit of fruit from ARB:
Summit Bullbar
Side rails and steps
Summit rear bar/tow bar (colour coded)
Left and right recovery points
Lightforce HTX spotlights
Safari snorkel
Warn XDC winch with wire cable.

Last of all was a visit to the guys at Ultimate Suspension in Sydney, and a 2 inch lift was installed. (Didn't get before photos unfortunately)
Interesting to note that with all the gear on, I am pretty close to the GVM for the front axel. I'd still like to add a second battery and bash plates in the future, so dunno what I'll do there.
Would like to know what the weight on the front axel with the genuine Toyota bar, rails, steps and winch is?

Itching to get it off road now, hopefully get the chance just before Xmas, and that'll be all the mods for a while until I save some $$$!

Looks great, although I would of gone with a black rear bar to keep the black and silver theme going, you should be happy with the suspension I also have the same.

Nice one!!
Also agree with the above comment and going with a black rear bar :) but looks great either way.

What made you go with the safari snorkel over the genuine one?

yeah i considered this, but wanted a kind of 'bold' look at the front, and then the rear to look like it was part of the vehicle...
not unhappy with how it looks, but each to their own!

decided to go with the safari snorkel for two reasons, first, a mate of mine has the genuine one and there is a small hole at the rear of the ram head (for drainage i guess) and at low speed it whistles.
second reason. it was cheaper to get the safari (dealer wanter $740 installed, safari was approx $600 - special price as a bulk deal with everything else...)

Nice one!!! I got the same one and 4 months later still haven't got a solution to mount the hand piece. Keen to see what you come up with.

yep, the hand piece will be sitting in the console for the next little while!
i know where i want to put it, but dont want to deface the dash in the process!
id like it right in front of the 'rear seat passenger' flashing light on the dash, but angled toward to driver for better visibility.
ill keep you posted...

Im the same.... no screws!! Happy with a double sided tape solution as long as its neat and tidy.

I got a guy at work who has a 3D printer and is going to scan the dash, draw a custom holder in CAD and 3D print it in black plastic... Im going to try on the opposite side of the head unit to you, just near wiper lever... have to wait till he has time to play with it...

Can't help you with the weights, but I'm almost certain it will be quite a few 10s of kgs less than all the equivalent ARB equipment.

Something interesting i discovered the other day is that if you install the Toyota winch spring upgrade kit you will get a placard label and owner's manual label with an uprated front axle rating of 1520kg. I've just bought all the gear and am yet to open the winch spring packaging so I can't tell you if the stickers within the box or if it's something Toyota apply when they install the kit, but it's nice to know they acknowledge the additional weight of the accessories. Only gripe i have is they should have just rated the front axle to 1520kg from the very beginning.... Might be their way of convincing customers to purchase their genuine products, and to be honest i quite like the accessories for the Gen8 Hilux, unlike the snot that was on offer for the Gen7 Hilux, hence why i went ARB back then.
Another point to note is Toyota won't install the uprated springs if the car doesn't have the genuine bullbar and Zeon 9 winch installed, and quite possibly may only sell you the uprated springs if you get the bullbar and winch.

Not sure on the legalities of things if you go over the specified axle capacity, but there is definitely some fat still left in the conservative ratings Toyota give all of their components.

Hi mate.

Your Hilux looks great! I have one the same colour and am adding the same bar work etc except I'm using TJM.

I'm going a 45mm lift, now that you have a lift fitted do you think you could get a larger tyre (say 265/70/r18) with no issues?

Or could you go wider as well like a 285/70/r18?

I'm planning on using the stock rims as well.

Cheers

Yeah not sure about a larger tyre, even with the lift. Around town I get no scrubbing etc with the 265/65 but last couple of weeks I've been on some pretty rough station tracks (dry sandy creek crossings) and I did get some minor scrubbing when the front springs were compressed (wheels turned slightly and prob hit the crossing a bit quick). Will be interested to see how your lux looks with the tjm gear!

So I got around to installing my uhf the other day. Forgot to take many pics.
The main box is under the glove box, see thenewkid build- that's where I fit the idea.

I got power from the 12v plug on the left side, the front dash cover pulls off once the centre console cover is removed- undo gear knob , unzip handbrake boot and pull up- I found it easiest to grab console inside gear stick bit. Only one plug to unplug (Eco power mode button)

Fir the time being I have use double sided tape for the mic bracket. It's holding fine, and it'll do until I come up with a more permanent solution. I'd like to design something that is angled towards the driver for better visibility on the uhf mic screen.

Pretty impressed with the XRS connect so far, and still got heaps to learn about all the features....

Also got a 140L ARB long range tank put in a couple of weeks ago. So far so good- get about 1100km before the fuel light comes on, and get around 120L into the tank.
Averaging 11L/100km- bout 300kg of gear in the tub, full bar work, winch and slightly larger bfg ko2 tyres. Speeds generally 110km/h. Higher fuel usage on dirt roads and station tracks, as to be expected.

Greatly modified Hilux. Good job!
Btw, it's a pity that Toyota did not make bigger holes for the aftermarket wheels.
