Christo's S/Cab SR 2.4 4x4 Build

Good day all the way from South Africa. I have been a member for a few months, but didn't post because I didn't have a Hilux.

2 weeks back I ordered my first 4x4 and I decided on a 2.4 SR 4x4 S/Cab Hilux. I decided on the Hilux for a few reason. In South Africa the Hilux comes in 3 forms in 4x4; the SRX 2.4, 2.4 SR and 2.8 Raider. The 2.4 SR is referred to as the mine spec S/Cab in South Africa and it is only S/Cab that comes standard with the following : 7 Airbags,Traction Control (A-trac), VSC, Hill assist and trailer sway. This resulted in not choosing the 2.8, because I feel the 2.4 SR is a lot safer.

My baby will be ready this week for delivery and is standing in stock form at the dealer.


Mods at the moment.
1. 2.8 rims and 265/65R17 Bridgestone AT tyres that a bought from a friend at Auto Line.
2. Stone Hill seat covers.
3. Toyota factory radio (The SR doesn't come with a radio as standard in South Africa).
4. Rhino Lining for the tub.
5. Tonneau cover.
6. Factory Toyota Fog lights.
7. 2 inch AmadaXtreme Suspension
8. Wildog Rocksliders



Futures mods:

1. Rear Aftermarket bumper.
2. Dual battery system.
3. Bashplate, gearbox plate and lower control arm plates
4. Upgraded LED headlights.
5. Cooper ST MAXX 265/70R17 tyres.
6. Spotlights.
7. Extra diesel filter and Catch can.

Toyota send me this Toyota. Revo in progress and love the standard rim look. The aftermarket rims at a 0 offset wouldn't have worked on the narrow fender SR. Hopefully getting my baby on Wednesday


I also went and order bashplates, rocksliders and rear bumper from Auto Line. The products are made by a company called Wildog. Will hopefully fit them in the next 2-3 weeks.

Been a bit busy. Received my Revo last Wednesday. Really a nice pick up. Power delivery is really good and the 2.4 pulls really nice with the 400nm and the 6 speed manual is really smooth.

Things that irritated me was the ride quality. It was really hard and bounce, so bad that the Revo is standing at AmadaXtreme today to get a new suspension. 2 inch lift in the front and 1inch in the rear. Running the back tyres at 1.9Bar already and front 2.1 bar just to get a softer ride.

I am getting wildog rocksliders fitted tomorrow. Decided to leave the back bumper and bashplates for now and did the suspension.

So yesterday I got the AmadaXtreme suspension kit fitted. I got 45mm in the front and 30mm in the back and I am really happy with that. The ride is really smooth and comfortable. AmadaXtreme just forgot to tighten the link on the swaybar and it made a hell of a racket in front. All is good now.







Today, I got my wildog rocksliders fitted. This was a real mission and we had to drop the tank to get the rear bolt in. I am also have a problem that Toyota fitted a plastic cover from factory on the door sill and now when you go over bumps the cab is hitting the rockslider and this is making a awful knocking sound. We lowered the slider a bit and it is better. If it goes on, I will remove the piece of plastic.


As you can see, the rocksliders is sticking really far out, this will help to prevent body damage.

A few more updates.

The plastic between the body and the rockslider was making me mad. I removed the plastic and the knocking noise is gone



The ride on the AmadaXtreme is really good. My Revo is featuring in their add in South Africa at the moment. One complaint with the AmadaXtreme is the lift I got. I don't think it is near 2inches and more like 30mm. I took this up with the owner of AmadaXtreme and we are friends as well and we will discuss this tomorrow. Short and the long, he must replace the coils and fit longer coils at his cost.


Then I installed an 120 watt Spot MadMax Led bar on the revo. Nobody in SA had brackets to install the led bar with a standard bumper and I had to resort to doing it myself. Took me about a day to do everything and I am really happy with the results.





I also found myself staring at the rear portion of the chassis to do recovery points for the moment, till I get a replacement bar or make my own bar. I made it template and hopefully they will be done in this week that I can fit and go play.

Been a bit busy. So AmadaXtreme fixed my lift. I am almost running 3 inches in the front now, it is around 68mm in front. CV angles isn't to bad but they are at a bit of a angle now.




Then my Revo got branded with AmadaXtreme stickers.


I also finished my recovery point at the back.


I took the Revo offroad this past weekend at two local tracks to test it out. Nothing hectic but I am really impressed with the A-trac offroad traction control. It is really noisy but workers brilliantly and I still have the lockers to use if the A-Trac system isn't enough. Rocksliders already saved me from body damage, the one hit in Stoney River was hard enough to cause damage to the front bracket of the rockslider that bolts to the crossmember. The rear standard bar also moved up and into the tub, luckily not causing damage to tub but the rear bumper is scratched badly now

Discovered today that my swaybar is pushing against and hitting the coil seat on the right wheel. Need to do 2000km in the next two weeks so need to solve it ASAP. Will be heading to AmadaXtreme on Monday morning. The problem is , in South Africa it is almost impossible to find swaybar relocation kits and AmadaXtreme says that they don't like them and we should find another solution around them. Is there another solution?

My father had a similar problem on his 2010 Toyota Fortuner. Ironman installed a swaybar relocation kit and the problem was solved, now I read the Vigo shapes swaybar bracket is different to the Revo shape. Is this true, because they look identical and ironman is almost my only option. If ironman doesn't have stock, I will need to install the kit from the Fortuner and order a new one from Ironman for my Dads Fortuner but don't know if it will fit or not.

Somethings happened from the last time I posted. I installed a relocation kit from ironman but the swaybar was hitting the radiator support arms, so I had to modify the radiator support arms.

I installed that on the Monday, on the Friday I was hit from behind by a armored Hilux Vigo carrying money. The Vigo was written off even with all the armor and couldn't drive away. To put the damage in money perspective, I paid R340 000 for my Hilux new, retail was R430 000. After the accident, my Hilux had R100 000 worth of damage. The chassis in 100%, but the tub is destroyed and the cab got hurt as well. It is in at the moment and hoping to have her back mid December.

That's a shame, lucky the chassis is still straight though, especially with the weight of an armoured ute hitting you.
