After market blind spot monitoring systems

I have a TOYOTA HILUX SR5 (21MY) and am interested in getting some sort of blind spot monitoring installed on it.

As it appears trying to retrofit a genuine Toyota system is more trouble than it's worth (see this: https://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D121%26p%3D442480&ved=2ahUKEwjA8rzXnp2FAxWf9DgGHcNPCCYQFnoECAYQAQ&usg=AOvVaw37ylVKoEcZsMHQPefcs896), I am looking at after market options.

I did speak to a local car audio visual retailer, but they stopped installing them about two or so years ago because they were having problems with the units. They couldn't advise how much any of the current options have improved.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with any after market system they've installed? Good, bad, in-between?

Any info would be highly appreciated.

Do you really need it? Had it on an Audi and after the novelty wore off I never took any notice. :( :(
Lots of expensive high-tech for very little benefit... Use your mirrors! ;)

BTW the Audi also had radar anti-collision technology and it shut the car down and put the brakes on when a bug hit the sensor  this actually happened to me!

Sounds like "just what you need" on Australian roads. :) :) :)

Gipsy, I have to wonder what might happen if you're off-roading and get some mud or a stone or any number of other items "pop-up" and get you in just the wrong spot. Forcing the brakes on at the wrong moment can spell disaster.

That's exactly the problem... Just when you need your vehicle to function at its best. Maybe we need a 'bugbar' instead of a bullbar

We do, it's called flyscreen, I actually use shade cloth to go over the grill and it very successfully keeps bugs & seed-heads out of the radiator fins.
Not confident that covering a sensor would be too beneficial though.
:) :) :)
