Trailer plug help

Postby Username_here on Mon, 19 Jun 2023 6:22 +0000

Hey guys, I've finally upgraded to a 2022 SR5. Just got it home, loaded he work gear up, put a tow ball on and plug my trailer in. Nothing.. what gives? Don't tell me it's an optional extra to have a working trailer plug? What do I need to get it going?

Cheers guys

Yep - an extra harness is required if it hasnt been fitted as an option. Check to see if the trailer plug is connected to a harness running the full length if the chassis into the engine bay if not ...

Thanks mate. It looks to be all there, and Toyota are accepting it back no worries now for repair this afternoon so will keep everyone posted on the outcome

Good to hear the updates later, however, if Toyota say it's all good, then chances are the trailer might need a little work, most common problems (in no particular order) are:
Trailer plug pins closed up
Poor or no earth connection
Blown globes
"Stone" cuts in wiring
Rusted or poor connections
Please keep us updated as the process continues.

Given a loan "car" it's horrendously dirty but that's another story

Say it's a faulty module, awaiting more info. PS, the trailer is ok, it's my daily tow so although it's in shabby nick it's not the current fault

Will also ask sales if the plugs are factory or optional extra when I'm there too.

If it was fitted to the vehicle at the time of sale to you by a dealership, then legally speaking it must be operational for the vehicle to have passed its roadworthiness certification.

Thanks Rob

Well, problem was - some things not plugged in. They didn't tell me what but I'm happy I can use it this morning to tow my mowing kit. It's really too fancy for a work car and going to get very dirty but it was either that, or just keep my old 2011 which will eventually go downhill. Very nice to drive though and would be great for the occasional weekend trip. Love to take some time off and tow a van one day

So many bells and whistles too.. was reading the manual past two nights and all this trailer sway, downhill handling, lane assist etc I'm not too sure on so probably won't use

The diesel particulate filter manual operation button, will I have to do this ever? Hoping not and it'll be ok automatically

...the manual operation button you will need only if the automatic does not work. The vehicle will tell you when to use......otherwise it even does not allow you to use it..
