rrt sportsbar

Postby Azilux on Fri, 30 Dec 2022 4:33 +0000

Hello,
Ive had my 2018 rugged x for a while now and contemplating my next mod. Currently I have the frontrunner platform with solar and awnings and built a basic 12v system into tub.

I want to install a rooftop tent and due to the weight loading a clamshell tent cannot go directly onto the cab. But the sports bar is rated at around 200KG from memory. So want thinking of making something to bolt the rear of the tent into the sports bar and the front onto the front runner platform to share the weight a bit. As I understand it the further back it goes onto the sports bar the more weight it will take. Has anybody else attempted this?

Thank in advance!

Can't say about the later version of the sports bar but the older ones have a label on top saying for looks only not load ratings

Sports bar on rugged X is designed to carry weight. 75Kg on top, 200kg as tie down into tub.
However you should not bolt something to both the racks from the tub and racks on the cab roof. They need to move\vibrate\shake independently or cracks might develop somewhere(?). OK for the occasional long flexible item but not something solid like the base of a roof top tent. Or at least that is the warning i have seen in multiple places.
