winch fitting kit hinges

Postby Byron Dening on Mon, 16 Aug 2021 1:07 +0000

Hi

i bought the winch fitting kit and the cradle for genuine toyota bar back in march, only just got around to fitting it,
opened the box and realised the fitting kit came with no nuts bolts or hinges, contacted toyota and there is nothing they can do unless i reorder again, obviously dont want to pay $300 for some bolts and hinges
So im wondering where can i buy the type of hinge that stays up so when i flp the numberplate up to use the winch it doesnt just fall back down again or if this has happened to someone else and what was the soultion they came up with?
thanks for any help

Good luck trying to find the bits at the wreckers
To fill the holes in the bar put in same plastic screw inserts and a screw in it will plug the holes

Don't know how to put up photos
If you PM me your phone number I will send you same photos.

On my ARB Sahara bar I invested $2.50 on some self closing hinges at "Bunnys". They have been on for almost 5 years with plenty of water dunkings and they are still working fine. The self closing mechanism holds the number plate firmly up and also firmly down, so it doesn't rattle at all. You just need to flatten out the hinge wings with a hammer. Oh....they have gone up to $3!

When I fitted my winch cradle I remember all the bolts were high tensile 8.8 grade. By memory I think the stamp on the bolts reads 8.8 cp.
Ask a mechanic.
I know most auto shops sell high tensile bolts
