Aircon water release

Postby wildthing on Sat, 22 May 2021 10:27 +0000

Hi
I've noticed a larger than normal discharge of water onto the ground from the aircon overflow pipe on my 2017 diesel Lux. I'm in a Tassie winter, so heating rather than cooling at present, although the discharged water is cool.
I know there is always some condensation to be eliminated, but this seems rather more than normal - so any suggestions as to cause/remedy would be appreciated. Or am I worrying needlessly?
Vehicle is serviced regularly, and in fact had most recent service just a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks,
wildthing

If it isnt coolant then it is ok, clean water cant come from anywhere else.

Modern motor vehicle aircon uses both hot and cold simultaneously, the cooling moderates water vapour and the heating warms the air to the set temperature. It would be normal to have water discharge, especially if it is cold and wet because the cooling evaporator/condenser system removes the moisture through condensation then the air is heated to the temperature you desire by a heating radiator run off the engine coolant to get the final temperature you desire as by the settings. This is particularly true of climate control. It doesn't work like home reverse cycle which has a very different process.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
