2WD in the Rain

Hi guys,
How does the 2016 hilux Revo handles in the rain? I'm strictly talking about driving in 2WD since 4WD should not be used on hard surfaces.

Did you ever feel it oversteer in roundabouts or on highway, etc? Or does the VSC indeed keeps it under control?

I'm looking to buy a 2016+ car, 2.4 with manual transmission. Tires probably AT. Would be great if owners can share their experiences.

I have had no trouble driving in rain. I suppose with your conditions in Europe at times with snow and ice on the roads I would have no hesitation running in 4X4. They say not to use 4X4 on "high traction surfaces". "Hard surfaces" can also be LOW TRACTION surfaces where you can use 4X4.

As they say "drive to the conditions".

Where in Belgium do you live?

In Bruxelles.
Winters are not what they used to be in Europe nowadays, less and less snow and more rain :)
I don't have experience with Part-time 4WDs, i've only had AWDs, but in rainy weather i would definitely not drive in 4WD because it is still a high traction surface and i guess it may weaken the transfer case in time.

There is no problem driving in the rain. Most cars are 2wd and have no problem driving in wet weather.

@ggreenie, yes, but most cars are FWD.
Trucks are RWD and when you also consider AT tires and no weight in the back, i'm sure bad things can happen. What i was curious about is if the VSC really keeps it under control or it's just a fancy name in the spec sheet :)

I have a 2013 model and found unloaded it would oversteer badly on wet roundabouts if you tried to accelerate as you would in the dry when on its original dueler HTs. Had to lower the rear pressure to 30 psi, the dealers would always give it back at 40 all round, just too hard. Even at 30 had to be very careful on wet roundabouts. Used to notice other new luxs doing it too.
Yes the VSC would kick in but too late.
I replaced the tyres with KO2s and made it a completely different car. Drive normally in the wet now with the usual respect of wet roads but not scared of driving on wet roundabouts and thats a bonus where I live as there are over 200 roundabouts in my shire.
I have deliberately tried to get it to slide out but cant, the VSC kicks in as soon as there is any slip and corrects it now in the correct lane unlike when on the stock tyres.

Mine is an earlier model but gives you an idea of what difference tyres make.
Also bare in mind that many manufactures will run different algorithms in the VSC for different countries conditions.

My experience is similar to Marty's, except that unladen I run rears at no more than 26psi.

I also like the KO2s, but the hilux/vigo is a bit skittery no matter what, and the TC/VSC can go mad on some surfaces, like our corrugations, unless the driver is very gentle with the throttle.

As Marty said, unladen, with stock tyres, and dealer pressures of 40psi in the back, the electronics can't keep up and the car skips and dances around a lot. Not dangerous for me, but could easily be for some. Also wouldn't use 4wd on wet bitumen.
