How high???

Hey all, just after some opinions on a lift for my 2020 Hilux.
It has standard suspension at the min and I went up to a 265 65 18 tyre. I was just wondering if I should go 3" or 2", as we will be doing a Simpson trip next year and then hopefully a run to The Cape the year after. Not really looking at one brand or another , and realise that uca's will need to go on.
All opinions ions greatly taken on board.

I am looking to see what I can do for a lift for my new Lux.
I found the NZ web site the 2021 Hilux Mako comes with the OME BP51 suspension with a 50mm rear lift and a 40mm front lift as standard and some good wheels and tyres as well

Thanks guys, you I kew legally im restricted, but just after thoughts on which way to go. I'm looking into how to get 3" legal but probably cost more than its worth.

2in is plenty. The Simpson is overrated for difficulty by people who dont get their tyre pressures right.

For both trips I'd go 2in and slightly larger tyres on smaller rims. Perhaps 275 70 17.

Hi Brett. I have a 2017 build with a 2inch lift and bigger tyres.
The official Victorian rule is 50mm with a +/- tolerance of 25mm (so it can measure 75mm higher than the original Toyota specs and will be legally ok).
Whatever you decide to do make sure you tell your insurance company, I have to pay about $165 more annually.
I went with a bilstein package (not 51s, the heavy duty yellow ones) and the lighter leaf springs (basically the same overall load capacity and towing ability, they just give you a softer ride when empty).
From the moment I got in the car (after the lift) I could feel the ride was equivalent to original, except when I drove over speed humps. OMG the jarring over speed humps made me think what the hell have I done!
THEN I paid for adjustable upper control arms and like magic the jarring disappeared. Oh I cannot recommend them highly enough, night and day. Adjustable upper control arms take out the bound up pressure and also help against CV failure, definitely worth the extra $900.
The highest legal lift which is quite common is the two inch lift and 285/75R17 (32.7inch tyres.)
I have BFG muddies and my car is an absolute ripper off road.

What ever you do just don't go cheap and do spacers, thats a P plater trick that will make your car illegal and shit to drive. Do it properly, you have to spend over $4k (including tyres)
