N80 Rhino Rack

Postby lucky country on Fri, 15 Jan 2021 5:12 +0000

Hi all. I am looking to fit a Rhino Pioneer Rack to my N80 dual cab and was hoping for testimonials or feedback from those that already have a Platform or Tradie rack. I am leaning towards the 1528mmL Platform with Backbone mounts which happens to be the most expensive of the 3 options. Just wondering what others opinions were of their setup, i.e. practicality, wind noise and general satisfaction. I should add I am planning on mounting a 42" light bar to whatever rack I finally decide on. Thanks in advance for any and all constructive feedback.

I have the backbone on mine, so noisey, I’ll about to drop the roof liner and sound deaden the cab. I know people who have installed them and removed them due to noise. I also know people who say they are not too bad (noise wise).

Have the backbone pioneer here also, definite wind noise, batwing awning off one side, shovel mount the other. Not sure there's a way around the wind noise, I've got use to it now. The thing I hate about it is the planks have a rattle to them, like the rivets holding them together are loose, its noticeably worse on cold mornings.

I might take a look at the RLT600 mounts then. Are you guys running the Tradie Rack or just the Platform? If it's the Platform, did you go with the 1328mmL or the 1528mmL version?

I’ve got the tradie rack, but I believe it’s the loops on the backbone that make the noise. I have mates with roof racks and platforms mounted on them, they seem to be a lot quieter, just don’t look as good [emoji6]

I have the 1528 long version sitting on the RRTL600 quick mount legs. The platform seems to be a good length and covers the whole roof. Not much noise.

Well it turns out it is not the Backbone that is noisy, just the wind from the windscreen hitting the forward edge of the platform rack. Quite noisy but I would imagine the the shorter 1328 rack might not have this problem. Just fitted a Stedi ST4K light bar under the front edge and that has reduced the wind noise considerably.
