New Pads and Rotors. Still Squeal FIXED!

Postby quletadik23 on Wed, 18 Nov 2020 3:33 +0000

FIXED!! So its the Drum Breaks all along. I just cleaned it and put some Copper grease on all the contact points. Thanks to all!!

Hi! So I bought a new Anti-Squeal Shims for my brake pads but I don't know how much should I apply the included Molybdenum Grease (3 Grams) at the back of the pads and at the other side of the shim.
Image

My pads only have 2 Holes but the shapes of our pads was like the 6 Holes one.

(Pic where the Grease should be applied, but how about the middle of the shims? where and How much should I Apply?)

(New Rotors and Pads, Still Squeals when braking at low speed. Already tried applying some Liqui Moly on the Old Shims but it only lessen the noise)
Thanks everyone !

I have never put grease on the back of break pads, the pins yes but not the pads. Just going to attract and hold road grime. Have you tried the rubberized paint for the squealing?

Hi. I just installed new shims and put some liqui moly brake grease at as what the instruction said at the service manual. But it still squeal at low speed. But it lessen the noise. But still annoying but better than no grease.

Should I try the included toyota molybdenum grease? Dont know how much should I apply. Haven’t seen any youtube vids how to apply that thing.

What brand of pads are installed and did they squeal immediately or after driving for 1000km or less?

I installed Akebono Brake pads. The rotors are advics brand. The originals rotors warped like instant. May around 3 months my pedals goes up and do so quickly, already refaced that 3 times and it squeals too. Thats why I replaced rotors.

It mostly squeals when braking at low speed specially downhill.

Okay. It might not be the shims or grease type causing the issue. It may be the pad material.
Do you brake hard or lightly most of the time?
Braking hard can cause glazing. Braking lightly can cause polishing of both the pads and rotors.
A quick way to see if this may be the problem is to remove the pads, place some 120-150 grit sandpaper on a level surface and remove about 1/4mm of the pad face.
Pop them back in and see if that works. If so you might want to see if the rotor has become polished too.

If the above doesn't help consider opening up the brake drums and cleaning them out - the rear shoes can sound like its the front that is squealing.

Okay maybe ill try the drum breaks first. Im tired of lubing the brake pads and shims. hahaha, I did that around 4 times, experimenting, cleaning, adding lube again, buy new shims, and lube again.

Most mechanics here dont put high temp grease on the contact points inside the drum breaks, they just blow of dust and wash with break cleaner. That's why when it comes to breaks, I don't trust them anymore. So I DIY. Ill update you when my ordered grease has arrived. :)

Im starting to suspect the liqui moly brake grease. Suddenly after driving for an hour straight, the noise is getting worse. Just a simple brake it squeals. :(

As DB said it could just be the pad material.

Do what DB said and pull em out and rough them up and see if it stop. If it stops for a while and comes back then try a different brand and compound of pad.

Ok so i rough them at 150 grit and change the brake grease brand. Still the same. It’s quiet on few kilometers then it starts to get noisy again. I’ll change the pads next. What brand should I use? Advics, toyota oem(expensive), bendix, bosch, Hi-Q. Those are the available brands here.

What year and model do you have?
How many km on the odometer?

Have you checked the brake linings on the rear brakes? This could confuse the source of the squeal if the rears are worn!
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
