Bad fuel or injector

Postby DWWood on Sun, 16 Feb 2020 4:06 +0000

Hey guys, what are the symptoms of bad diesel? 2017 N80. Lost power up hills, blowing smoke and knocking noise coming out of engine bay. Being told bad diesel but it was 250km's into a tank of BP Ultimate before this happened. My feeling is injector though.

14 days out of warranty but Toyota are going to honour it under warranty thank god.

Looks like you should have a prefilter fitted. Hopefully it's covered by Toyota. Keep your receipt from BP, they might need to defend if it's bad fuel.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Could also be an EGR issue.
Majority of "injector" issues we've struck at work have actually been associated with the EGR operation.

Have you also checked and cleaned the MAF sensor?

Edit: your Hilux will be DPF so could be a DPF issue. Is there a warning light on the dash?

No warning light. Had DPF replaced around 30 thou ago and hasn't missed a beat or blown any smoke since. Don't know what a MAF sensor is sorry. It's a Toyota now so guess will find out eh.

When you get it fixed let us know.
Wasn't the there an issue with a badly positioned 5th injector that got dirty?
