Car theft

Close friend of mine had his SR5 broken in two nights ago. About 5k of camping gear and other items stolen from the car in his driveway.
Car was locked.
Thugs used some device to capture his fob key proximity signal (key was just inside of the house near the front door) and then just opened the doors.

I guess all that fancy stuff cars have these days does not make them more secure at all.

Lesson learnt; do not leave your car keys near the front door of the house

I just read this article - seems to be a problem in the UK:

Can the key signal be turned off?

Dont know mate.

Some people buy small metal safes or boxes and keep the keys inside when in the house (to stop the signal getting out).

Yeah my outlaws did that after a home invasion - police officer who suggest the box noted the box stopped the signal as well.
