A Federal Court judgement handed down in April that found more than 260,000 Toyota vehicles were defective when sold.
The court found Toyota HiLux, Prado and Fortuner vehicles sold between October 1, 2015 and April 23, 2020 were sold with faulty diesel particulate filters (DPF).

How did they determine the action is upto vehicles aquired on April 2020?

The new Hilux model was available from August 2020, so are someone (presumably Toyota) saying that the older model sold between May-July 2020 had the DPF issues fixed somehow?

If so, I find that a little hard to beleive that they fixed the older model with 3 months to spare until the new model was released with a whole new engine design, etc....

i dont know , but at a guess , that was when the new style ( solid ) 5th injector housing was released . Mine is Dec 19 and it still has the old style hollow housing .

How do you determine what style housing you have?

The new housing has a big letter D shape cast in, directly in front of where the injector goes

It is on the left side of the engine near the front. Below is mine, has no D to be seen.

I looked up my VIN and the compliance date was actually 03/2020....so I believe that would put me into the dates for the class action.

The next thing when we go to sell everyone will tell you that’s the bad model and they won’t want it.
I think that’s done me for buying anymore Hiluxs.

geez mate, wait until you get your payout, that should sweeten the deal... 17percent of the new value and dealers will rush to buy yours cheap, but if you get the 5th injector replaced its as good as new.

Can you force them to replace the 5th injector housing? Or do you have to wait until its blowing smoke?

You don't have to force them. I got a polite and helpful response when I approached my local dealer because I became concerned about the issue. Had the DPF and injector replaced, as well as installation of dash display and a manual burn button.

You dont wait, they do soft recalls, just go to dealer and ask for it to be done.
Part of the work is new Dpf, new injector and its housing and updated software, plus manual dpf button installation and message on dashboard when Dpf regen is in progress.
Dealer will not push back as toyota is paying them to do this.

does anybody know what the differences are between the previous and updated DPFs ? the housing is easy to spot but can we spot the updated DPF by any external markings ?

Are there any negatives to getting it done on a low kms vehicle?

Mine being late 2019 but going by the photos mine has the old housing, does that mean I can have it replaced. Or what happens if I get the money and then have problems.

Booked mine in for a regular service, asked for the DPF upgrade. The service guy seemed to think my model month should have the new injector housing....Not so sure given the above photos.

Mine is getting updated/replaced this week, it's an MY19 (60K on the clock) luxy and I've had no probs with the dpf until recently, started to blow smoke like a steam train with no prior history of it.
