Toyota faces class action

General discussion of basically anything related to the 2015> Hilux

I also just rang and booked in for a service, they asked me if I had had any issues with the DPF. I did mention that once or twice I have had someone pull up beside me and say I was blowing smoke. They told me that Toyota is replacing any DPFs that have had issues, and they are covering their bases. Apparently the DPF is all new design, new injector ect from what is currently in the vehicle.

Based on my experience recently, it appears that they will replace the DPF and clean the injector housing - they do not replace the injector and housing.

If you have the older style injector housing then it and the injector will be replaced, it's the root cause of the issues and the main reason for the campaign.

The new housing is very different internally and doesn't have the hollow chamber that is subject to exhaust gas turbulence that builds up the carbon deposits. It also better angles the injector to spray more evenly into the DPF presumably to reduce hot spots there.

Mine's a 2016 model, so the original injector and housing. The local dealer - the largest in Adelaide - just replaced the DPF, I asked about the injector & housing and they told me that they were not being replaced, just cleaned.

Check the details on the housing in this thread viewtopic.php?f=122&t=28654&start=240

Mines a 2016 and the housing was replaced under the campaign a couple of months ago with no questions.

I would double check that yours hasn't been done, hard to tell externally but check the photo's in the post above. The new one will obviously be newer and shinier looking, and whilst only a clue my original 2016 also happened to have the "8" stamped and the new one a "10" same as in that post.

Otherwise I would be going back and insisting they replace the housing or even find another dealer to do it.

I'll chase it up with Toyota, the housing has an 8 on it so presumably the original, it's bright and shiny but given that it's been in an ultrasonic bath that's no surprise.

I did put a paint pen mark on it prior to taking it in for the work but, again, the ultrasonic bath would have out paid to that...

Had the service yesterday, and they replaced the housing, injector, and DPF - they told me this when I picked it up. Took some before pics and the numbers/markings on the housing are definitely different. I hadn't complained about DPF issues at all, just seemed to be a routine thing they were doing. Makes me much happier that it's been done, they seem to be attempting to correct the issues. Not sure if its because of the class action or not, but at least its been done.

It drives just the same. I would only expect to notice a difference when it was doing a burn, but most likely I won't notice anything.
Good piece of mind that it has the newest hardware and should avoid the known issues

Any chance of the before & after pictures of the housing?

Werribee Toyota

I'll also put some links to before and after pics on the other thread... it's probably more relevant to move the conversation to there than keep going in the class action thread, even though they are kind-of related.

So I believe only vehicles up to Dec 19 are going to be fixed, whereas the court action mentioned vehicles up to March 20 are faulty?

Mine recently had the DPF swapped by Toyota. Fuel consuption dropped from 9.8 to 9.1l/100km average with a mix of highway and city driving. No more white clouds or burning/ozone smell when doing a burnoff either. Fuel consumption on the gauge during a burnoff has dropped as well. Used to be around 20-40l/100 now around low teens to 20/100. Mine is a 16 with 55K on the clock.

I just got my 2018 Hilux DPF replaced at 28,000km.. It did blow white smoke about once a fortnight (that I noticed...) Anyone know what type of damage it could have done to engine?? If any??

Just dropped my 2017 hilux off at the local Toyota Dealership for its 110000 service - first question - "have you noticed it blowing white smoke?" - answered that I had. They then informed me that they will be replacing the dpf and injectors as a preventative measure as a "normal part of servicing" at no additional cost. Sounds like they are trying to get on the front foot before the judgement is finalized in the class action.

Had mine in today, replaced the DPF, housing and 5th injector. There was definitely a difference in throttle response when I picked it up. Mine is one of the first on the new shape OCT 2015 85k on it, with snorkel and K&N air filter. I debated extending my warranty for another 3yrs to cover the DPF when my was running out. Happy I didn’t, and happy Toyota are looking after us.
