Rugged X winch install

Postby Tommo22 on Mon, 27 May 2019 11:19 +0000

Hey fellow hilux owners !

I have recently wanted to fit a winch to my rugged x. After extensive research and many hours googling I can’t find any thing on how there can be installed and I can’t see how one would bolt into my bar/chassis when looking at my car.

So any advice on this matter would be great. Weather some one has done this before or us seen one fitted

Hopefully some one has had this mod done.

Cheers guys !

G'Day Tommo22

I'm a bit confused about your confusion !!!

Do you have an empty 'rectangle' front and centre in your bull bar ???

If you do pls. take some pics & post them up on here

Here is a photo of what the bar looks like and there is no mounting holes behind it.

So was thinking there might have to be a specific cradle to go in behind it.

Does say it’s winch compatible.

G'Day Tommo22

I 'assume' you had installed a new BB

I cannot see a winch attaching to that bar. sorry !!!

You should give the dealer a call & get some advice, but I wouldn't let them install anything on my rolux.

Just my 2c worth as I have had a few issues with their workmanship in the past & I'm taking dealers in Canberra, Adel. & Barossa.

Yeah It’s the factory bar on the rugged x that states to winch compatible.

But I can not seem to see how. Was hoping some one would have do this.

Thanks for your input and no I will install my self !

There is a winch fitting kit available for the Rugged X. Part number is PZQ6989470. It appears that the number plate section is modified with a flip down cover over the fairlead and the winch sits behind on a bracket mounted to the chassis.

Oh thanks heaps.

I’ll have to look into that. Know if there much cutting of the front out of the bar as there isn’t much room for the rope to feed through or mounting the fairlead ?

Tom.

I couldn't tell you what's involved. The instructions are not listed on the Toyota Manuals website. All I can find out is that there is some cutting involved.

If I recall correctly the bar is made by ARB, maybe they can assist.

Too easy mate. Will call them.

And I think arb were involved with the designing of it. Surly Toyota will manufacture the parts.

Hey Tommo

I had one put on mine by toyota as couldnt find anyone that had done it. Ended up coasting about 4300 which was bloody expensive. You need a fitting kit that will coast you 1100 and then they put a warn winch on it. To be honest I wish i had just changed the bull bar and put a runva on it....

After realising mistake by purchasing toyota bullbar in the first place I had three options:
- install VRS 9500 winch (the only one aftermarket winch that fits)
- change bullbar and install whaterver winch I want
- allow myself to be scammed by toyota and pay close to 5k for their stupid winch

I went with VRS winch with my original toyota bullbar. Lesson learned for the next time. :x
