Mounting a uhf radio

Postby Tony2 on Mon, 29 Apr 2019 2:21 +0000

G’day all. I just bought a uhf radio with controls on the hand unit.
Before I set it up (mount it) can I have a look at what some of you guys did?
Advice and tips are most welcome.
Cheers,
Tony

I went the low profile solution. Mounted under the drivers seat, screwed to a length of aluminium angle across the top with each side hose clamped to the seat frame. The mike holder is on the centre console. Nothing hanging, flapping around, obstructing vision etc.

I've installed the CAT5 socket in the centre console blanks (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LIGHTFORCE- ... ctupt=true)

and then installed the adhesive and magnetic holder to the panel to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. Keeps out of sight and easy to access and hear. Only issue is that the cable can hit your knee sometimes, so I just put it in the centre console.

Mine's behind the glove box and bought the Lightforce Cat5 socket to suit. Plug handset into that. I chose to only power mine when the ignition is on but it's easily rejigged of needed.

Pay attention to phrancis that spot inside RH inner panel is very easy access and very easy fit. (Gme bolts directly into those two points)
Then the pass through connectors some guys have mentioned are worth every penny. Keeps a clean and tidy set up. I have a manual so when I’m using the uhf I just wrap it in the gear stick boot. And when I’m not it is in the glove box. (No drilling in the dash).
I love lightforce’s quality but to me they didn’t get the colour of their LEDs quite right. And personally they are a bit brighter too.

Thanks guys, great photos!
I bought this pack: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GME-TX3350- ... 2749.l2649
I'm getting the delivery tomorrow so I'll check out what hardware is in the box then. I don't see the same steel mounting panel (as your photo) on the ebay photos so that's a bit interesting.

Thanks for the link to the cat5 socket, I'll definitely buy that. I assume I just need to buy a standard 1.5mtr cat5 cable with two male ends to go from the main unit to the back end of the socket?
Also, where do you attach the power (red and black wires) so that the unit is only on when the key is turned to acc or ignition? I hope that is an easy question to answer.
Thanks in advance.

Yep totally agree with the colour and the brightness, they are way to bright and a darker blue that doesn't match the rest of the dash lights. My stedi switch for the led bar is the same as well.
