Seat Covers - 2019 SR5 twin cab

Postby BrianK on Sat, 06 Apr 2019 6:10 +0000

Hi,

Picked up a new 2019 twin cab SR5 a couple of days ago. First job was catch can. Next is some covers. In past vehicles I have had Black Duck canvas - very good but also quite stiff, and I have had MSA which are a lot softer.

Any comments from owners on the genuine Toyota canvas covers ? Hard ? Soft Comfortable etc ?

Thanks very much.

Cheers,

Brian

Hi mate,
Had some of the Toyota genuine canvas covers on a 2005 SR i had a few years ago- they wore through within 12 months so i went black duck canvas and never looked back, this was a few years ago so they may be different now. As you say they are stif etc and not the nicest things to sit on but they can take a heap of punishment and keep the seats in A1 condition.

To answer your actual question, the genuine seat covers are quite good. I've had the genuine canvas seat covers on my Hilux for 3 years now with no signs of wear other than dirt. They were a little stiff when new, but are quite supple now and the fit is really good. Compared to Black Duck, I think they are on par quality wise. A lot cheaper too. Would I buy them again? Yes but I think I would prefer black to blend in more.

Something softer is always nice to override the hard springs. Have done some seriously long drives and something soft and can be easily thrown in the washing machine is good. The V6 has always had a cheap sheepy on it and it has both protected the seat and my rear end....for me looks are not everything so I guess this may not be option for everyone, but a nice quality sheepy can look nice too....

About 12 months ago I got some RM Williams canvas seat covers (2006 dual cab) which were apparently newly released. They're not a thick/stiff canvas like the black duck is, I find them bloody comfy. I can't remember the exact price but I rekon they were about $200-220 for a pair ($110/seat) of front seat covers. I'm a farmer so I'm in and out of my ute more than most blokes and rekon they've been fantastic so far, no signs of wear and tear yet. Got them from Repco
