SR5 speedo in SR 2019

Postby Bigjase95 on Wed, 03 Apr 2019 4:44 +0000

Hey fellas, I just got a brand new 2019 sr extra cab manual, and replaced the speedo with an SR5 rogue one and also the steering wheel to suit with the extra buttons to control the speedo. The radio buttons are working so I know it’s all plugged in properly, but the buttons controlling the speedo are doing nothing. Has anyone else fitted an sr5 speedo/steering to an SR? How did you’s get the buttons to work? Wouldn’t think the clock spring is different as the new one all plugged in to my original clock spring all ok. Thanx guys much appreciated

What do you mean by speedo, the display between the dials?

It's all connected to the head unit I can tell you that much, do you have sat nav?

I’ve changed my SR cluster out for an SR5 one. All works as it should but the directional buttons on the steering wheel have no response at all. No I don’t have sat nav

I just have to ask... why would you want to do this mod? It makes no sense. Surely you bought the SR as you decided you didn’t need all the bells and whistles of the SR5...

Probably same reason as me, because I wanted the extra space in the bed the Extra cab gives but Toyota only make SR spec ones.

Maybe a coding issue? Does it need activating in Techstream?

I bought the sr extra cab as Toyota wouldn’t sell me an sr5 extra cab in manual, + there was none around . So I got the SR.

Not too sure mate, all the other buttons work, like the back button and the dot (ok) button in the centre, so wouldn’t think so

The 4 arrows on the right hand side of the steering wheel are in the manual as controlling the multi function display which is the bit inbetween the rev counter and speedo. Left and right arrows take you between pages like current and average fuel economy, average speed, elapsed time, distance etc. Is that whats not working? What does the dot button do when you press it?

Correct, when I push the directional buttons, absolutely nothing happens at all. The dot button only does anything, for example, I fueled up my car the other day and it asked me how much I paid per L, I couldn’t adjust the price as the directional buttons don’t work, but I was able to press the dot button to accept the price

I wonder if the slip ring is different and has more wire connections which are for those buttons. Or there’s a wiring loom between the slip ring and the gauges that needs changing.

Isn't a lot of the info displayed linked to the head unit as well, not sure if that would be required as well to make it all talk properly.

Yeah but it’s not a lack of info, all it’s missing is the sat nav info which my car doesn’t even have, being an SR. It’s the fact that the directional buttons on the steering wheel have no response when I press them, they’re all lit up and all the other buttons work, like the centre dot button, and the back button etc, just the directional ones don’t work, it’s got me f$@#&%
