High lift jack for 2016 SR, where to lift from?

Postby Markdavo on Mon, 01 Apr 2019 1:33 +0000

I'm looking at buying a high lift jack (not decided which make/model) and am wondering where/how to lift?

My SR has the standard side steps a Toyota tow bar and ARB poly smart bar.

Thanks,

Mark

You can lift on ta towbar or ta can buy straps that go through ya wheels to lift by them. You're kind of limited with no actual bullbar.

Hi Markdavo Just one point Hi lift jacks can be FATAL :o (the jacking handle) to yourself & to a lesser extent your vehicle read everything you can about their safe operation they used to come with very good operating instructions not sure if that is still the case, & there was a very good U tube video. Better still go & talk to your local 4wd club about using these jacks for recovery work, they may be able to help you with training.
Cheers.

Ronny Dahl did a good video about the different options: https://youtu.be/T5I4gae00Ho

I have a Larzep Telescpopic Bottle Jack and two smaller bottle jacks that provide a range of options, in addition I have a Safe Jack Base Plate (Distributed by ProQuip in Australia) to make a lift a bit safer. Can highly recommend.

SafeJack and a few others do base plates for High Lift Jacks as well to make them a bit safer.

What type/model Larzep Telescpopic Bottle Jack do you have?

Thanks, Mark

Mark, I have a AB40434 which is rated at 4.1 tonne and extends from 265mm (Closed) to 610mm (Extended Height). I am not sure whether that model is still available or has been replaced; I have had it since 2014 so there is probably something new.

I have a 2” inch lift as part of my GVM upgrade which is why I needed it, but I still carry the standard Toyota bottle jack and another bottle jack I got with my camper trailer to give me a range of options.

I think it was pretty expensive from memory, but at the time I got it there was nothing comparable that I could find on the market.

As previously discussed, I use the Safe Jack Base Plate which fits with all three of my bottles jacks.

Thanks, they don't seem to be made now but I'll contact them after Easter to confirm. I will order the Safe Jack Base Plate from ProQuip.

Cheers, Mark
